We sure hope the rally will not be in Castlegar becaurse they only have 2 dives accomodations in town, Super 8 and Quality Inn. Not the quality and capacity required for a rally.

Since Cali is broke you must be oly be getting Google Lite in LaLa Land. A quick search on Google up here in the Great White North came up with 8 locations. Some even have bathrooms so you don't have to share the outhouse with the grizzly bears.

Dear Ed and Jacquie, yamafitter - Bill F. is correct, Castlegar could handle a NAFO / CFR with no problems. In June of 2009 Seth and I passed through Castlegar coming and going to Nakusp, British Columbia for CFR and we certainly saw more than 2 lodgings. Like yamafitter says, I would say there are at least 8 locations.

I'm releaved to know there are more than 2 accomodations in town, as listed in the Auto Club book and on-line. We are curious to know which hotel with banquet facilities will be named. We have friends that are finishing up construction of their home in time for us when we pass through in June. Much planning is in order and Banff, here we come again.

Thank You Ric, The Jorstin Boys and the Stanley Boys will take you up on your kind offer of assistance. I worked and lived in Alaska for five years in the mid eighties, but nothing beats current and local information about riding Alaska.

I will be laying out the route we two Father-Son teams will be taking to Alaska and then onto the ferry dock at Skagway and I will post it up here in January. Any recommendations you give will be heeded and listened to, Many Thanks!

Sunday, June 24: Castlegar to Clearwater, BC; on the Yellowhead South Highway.

 

Monday, June 25: Clearwater to Kitwanga, BC; on the Yellowhead Highway.

 

Tuesday, June 26: Kitwanga to Hyder, Alaska; on the Cassiar Highway.

 

Wednesday, June 27: Hyder to Prince Rupert, BC.

 

Thursday, June 28: Sail aboard BC Ferries to Port Hardy on Vancouver Island; The Jorstins and The Stanleys will reserve a stateroom; if we want to nap or have some privacy; this is a 12 hour passage.

Friday, June 29: Today may be a “lay-day” or “catch-up” day, this all depends on the 2012 BC Ferries Sailing Schedule. The Prince Rupert to Port Hardy Southbound ferry sails only on alternate days.

 

If the ferry sails on Thursday, 6/28 we'll use our layday/catchup day somewhere on Vancouver Island.

 

As a suggestion, if Miss Barb is back from NAFO/CFR, we can grab lodgings in Campbell River, BC.

 

If the ferry sails Friday, 6/29 our layday/catchup day will be spent in Prince Rupert fishing/kayaking.

 

Saturday, June 30: Night spent in Victoria, BC; somewhere close to the Black Ball Ferry docks.

 

Sunday, July 1: Sail on the first ferry to Port Angeles, Washington; make Redding, California.

I'm pretty sure I'm in for this one although it is far to early to tell for sure. I am thinking about making it an epic trip. Four weeks and 13000 miles down the east coast, along the south, riding in Colorodo, Utah etc, up the Cali coast, Cascades a couple of days in Castlegar and an unknown route home. With winter just getting underway here, I will have LOTS of time for planning. Hope to meet up with some folks along the way.

They have every legally recognized safety standard certification in the World except for the DOT, that is why our US Feds and BMW of Canada are real buttheads about we Americans owning them.

So, I am hoping that we Stanley Boys can accompany one of you to a BMW shoppe in either Calgary, Victoria or Vancouver. Seth and I will try on the Schuberth Helmets for proper fit and color desired, and then slip you folks the Loonies and Toonies required to buy these babies! Then we will go to a Postal Center and mail our HJC helmets home to Chandler, AZ.

There have been numerous threads on this very topic. BMW Canada has left strict instructions with its Canadian dealers that the System helmets are not to be sold to US customers.
The reason System helmets are available in Canada and elsewhere but not the US is not that they cannot be DOT certified. BMW does not want them sold in the litigious US market in order to prevent possible lawsuits.

I've heard that Canadian dealers can be subject to strict corporate sanctions for knowingly allowing helmets to get to the US market. For this reason' date=' several years ago the corporate solution was to pull the System helmets from the Canadian market altogether. Dealer lobbying got them back, and I don't think anyone wants to screw up that deal again. Hence the reluctance to sell to US customers.[/quote']

Papa, is not the System helmet just a C3 with the Schuberth communication system? You can buy it separately in the good ole USA for about $400. The helmets go for $699. If you order out of your state you won't pay sales taxes, but in Canuckistan, a personal purchase will cost you HST tax of 13%. It would pay to shop around, but Schuberth controls the retail price and they are not to be discounted anywhere.

Hi Ray, the one I want is the System 6, can't get it here in Arizona at any of my three BMW Dealers. No, Seth and I need to enter a Canadian BMW store with one of you Hosers, we'll select the Schuberth's we want and hand you the cash after you purchase them for us!

Unless, I am totally wrong about the comparison of the C3 versus the System 6; and that is completely possible, I have not seen a System 6. I have only heard about the System 6 from the European BMW Forums, when I ask here in Zonieland all of my dealers are clueless to the differences between a C3 and a System 6: Other that they consistently tell me they could not sell me a System 6 even if they had one!

So you can walk into a cruiser shop and buy a novelty helmet which has no safety certifications at all, but you can't buy a real motorcycle helmet because it isn't DOT approved. :blink:
