I think the 04 I just got is a ticker. It has a pretty loud ticking sound that sounds like valves. But, the ticking isn't a constant speed, increasing as the engine speeds up. It also seems to be the same loudness on both left and right sides. I will ask the local Yamaha dealer to check it out.
