Responding to myself - here's my version of the revised parts list required to mute the ticker forever. Format is P/n - Price, Qty. Prices are taken from Ron Ayers Motorsports web-site. 5JW-11181-00-00 gasket, cylinder head - $32.78, 1 5JW-12121-01-00 valve, exhaust - $27.53 , 8...

Changing Speedometer Instrument Dash Lights on a Gen 1

I think I have found a replacement bulbs at a local autoparts store. Those are manufactured by Koito, model 1592 (14V 80mA). Got them for 25 cents each. -grommit

    ticker parts and labor list

I'm considering to repair a ticker with my 2003 machine. The parts listed above marked OBSOLETE (at boats.net as well as at a few other on-line stores I tried) and no substitutions are suggested by Yamaha. So is there a working update to the above parts list? -grommit

    Ticker suspect

In my case these ticking sounds have some correlation with engine temperature (the higher the noisier), it also became more quiet once I replaced the CCT. BTW, if I was in your shoes, I'd change the CCT right away (see relevant threads for more horror info). Not sure how it goes in Sweden, but...

    Ticker suspect

JFYI: I've replaced the cam chain, sprockets, CCT, slippers and spark plugs. Then adjusted the valves (two exhaust ones were 0.05mm tight). The ticker is still there. However overall engine became more quiet than it used to be (see youtube link up in this thread). So here it is after the...

    Ticker suspect

It might not be evident from the recording but there are two spikes of the ticking noise - one at 2K and another at 3.5K. So the tick does get louder or much better noticable at these RPMs. And it is almost gone after 5K. There is ABSOLUTELY no tick when the engine is cold, that's for the first...

    Ticker suspect

It should not be a CCT issue as I just changed the unit for a newest version available from Yamaha. And the tick is not only coming from the right side for sure. No oil consumption between annual change. I'm planning dropping headers, no spare parts for that yet. -grommit

    Ticker suspect

I own a Gen1 FJR '03 with 40K miles on clock. I purchased it second hand with 20K miles on clock and since then its engine had a distinct top-end ticking noise. The character of the noise has not changed much for the last 20K miles. So here it is: I studied the Ticker subject (ticker...

    Ticking Sound Byte

Dear Ticker victims, Does anybody have a copy of these infamous files? The original links do not work anymore. If recovered, I could host these files at my place and post new links here. Any pointers to alternative ticker recordings also appreciated! Thanks, Grommit

    Read wheel bearings removal

One more hint - I found it handy to knock the bearings back into the wheel using plastic waterpipe fitting like this: . There are many shapes and sizes of these fittings out there, mine was a little too large in diameter so I had to cut some excess material off it.

    Read wheel bearings removal

That's a confusing issue. I've googled the specs for 6204 & 6304 bearings so their inner diameter is 22mm. However, my bearings measure to 21mm at most. In any case I guess the 19-20mm anchor bolt would work fine as it expands in its working position.

    Read wheel bearings removal

At a hardware store department where they sell mounting hardware (like screws, bolts, nuts etc). The outer diameter of the anchor should in fact be slightly less than 22mm (perhaps 20mm would work fine) to let it easily into the bearing. The best way would be to take your new bearing to a...

    Read wheel bearings removal

Got to replace rear wheel [ball] bearings on my GenI FJR (due to suspicious noise coming from the rear end). Having no special tool at hand I tried several methods of pulling / knocking these bearings out of the wheel. The method that finally worked was to make use of a 22mm diameter anchor...

Stebel Nautilus on FJR Gen I

That's right, I suspected that my installation method might not be possible with Gen II models.

Stebel Nautilus on FJR Gen I

Yes, exactly. I used a 2-female / 1-male pigtail made from a piece of wire and ordinary automotive connectors. Just not to cut stock harness.

Stebel Nautilus on FJR Gen I

Well, I went a bit deaf once tried it without a helmet. I'm not sure is it because cowling focuses airwaves somehow or the horn(s) are loud enough. Yes, I left two stock horns wired.

Stebel Nautilus on FJR Gen I

Having gone through a few dangerous situations on the [crazy] roads of Moscow, I realized that I need a louder horn. I mean a really loud one. A quick forum search revealed a few candidates, so I got a Stebel Nautilus from eBay. Seller proudly shipped it with a 90-degree mounting bolt. I've...

    Non-periodic, loud grinding/clunking noise from chassis/transmission

Just a quick followup - I've replaced front wheel bearings and, at the first glance, the noise is gone. I've not ridden long enough, though. I used a small (#10) socket head with an extender to hammer bearings out of the wheel. I found that socket head has a tighter grip on bearing's inner race...

    My first long-distance motorbike travel

I'd say, that despite 5-years foreign language classes taught at school to virtually everyone, neither of Latin-based languages are widely spoken in Russia. English is known better than others, though. Chances to run into an English speaking person on the street is much higher in Moscow and...

    My first long-distance motorbike travel

I love traveling for its own sake. Have done a handful of long-distance car travels to various parts of Europe in the past. This was my first attempt of bike travel. I got a 2003 first generation, blue FJR with over 20K miles on clock (maybe much more, who knows what they do to her odometer at...
