Replaced Gen II shock with a Gen III shock

RFH, it would be interesting if you changed it without telling him and see if he notices... maybe that would be a bad idea?

Ventilation panels on Gen 3 FJR

When I first got the bike, the dealer set one side out and one side in. I thought the inside was a tiny bit cooler on the outside of the leg. I swapped them and all that seemed to reverse. It was in the realm of being psychosomatic. It was still cold anyway (upper 30's), but I've left them both...

Will I know when it's time?

My take is that when you don't know the answer, it just might be time. Here is a spin on a quote: It's better to know you could've ridden longer than to know you should've stopped sooner...

You are clearly not an idiot. Sorry.

    2014 FJR-ES with police bars

Thanks TXFJR. I'm thinking about coming straight out and down - basically just cutting off the top of the "ear" and also having a bar come back from the lower point like the canyon cages. Hard to know if that will protect anything.

    Soft Keys?

I could not see the bend in the key. Are you sure that was not a key from your old '07, and that's why it did not work any longer? How could such a non-existent bend cause the key to fail to turn the ignition or open the gas tank? Pot metal keys? How much could possibly be saved by cheapening...

    Leaning out/in

The roads were a little moist, but I was getting more comfortable and leading-leaning into the turns with the bike more, and then there was a wet tar snake that made the front wash. These things are becoming so numerous, like road graffiti.

    2014 FJR-ES with police bars

More pictures, please. Or can someone point to good mounting locations? I want to make my own 'bars' Thanks

Me too, although I was going to do it anyway when the time came.

    Leaning out/in

In a turn, the bars are turned slightly in the direction of the turn. I was just watching "Twits of the Wrist - Abridged" on youtube where a pointer was mounted to the bars to demonstrate both the brief counter steer to initiate the turn and bar position in the turn. It's a good video, but I...

AMA Report Regarding the Safety of Lane Splitting

Well, I won't pretend to even remotely comprehend our system of government. It seemed there was a complaint and that may have been an instigating event. The CHP has a number of publications that would seem to be construable in the same light. It's possible that all this publicity could go the...

AMA Report Regarding the Safety of Lane Splitting

motorcyclists in other states seem to think lane splitting is crazy and don't want anything to do with it. I do not know why Cali allows it, but it seems to be getting people upset around here (CA) and some pressure to eliminate it.

AMA Report Regarding the Safety of Lane Splitting

The petition period seems to have started Dec. 2nd, so just a few days in. It's ~10% through the open period and only ~2% toward the goal. I bet a very very small fraction of the motorcycling community is even aware of it. It is not important enough to anybody to extract DMV records to get a...

AMA Report Regarding the Safety of Lane Splitting

Since CA is the only state in the US that allows lane sharing, shouldn't your last point be a reason to care? Especially since the CHP had pressure to remove their lane sharing guidelines, it's going in the wrong direction.

How much is gas where you live?

$2.86 San Jose, CA. I heard something about cap and trade will make it go up ~$0.75 unless some legislation is passed... https://www.sacbee.com/news/politics-government/capitol-alert/article4226376.html
