Critique - how I handled sand in a curve

I would have to agree with both of the previous posts. Dirt biking experience would have me weight the front wheel as much as possible by sliding forward on the seat and sticking a leg out with the hope of proping it up if it began to fall in. I'm not sure how well that would work with a 650...

    Adjustable Cowlings

The word I got from a Yamaha "Product Specialist" back in '06 was: Cowling open (out) is warmer because it directs cool air away from the rider therefore allowing more engine heat to reach the rider. Cowling closed (in) is cooler because more cool air reaches the rider.

2008 Front End Noise of Bumps

+1. My '06 had done this from day 1. I don't think this is a problem other than the noise being annoying. I've never had a braking problem with the bike.

    Exhaust Recommendations

I have the LV titanium slip-ons on my '06A. They sound great and the satin silver-gray finish is a perfect match to the silver used on the side panel holding the FJR moniker on the '06. However, if I had a black '08, I'd seriously consider the black Holeshot cans (without the logo on the side)...

    Any Alternative to Corbin Smuggler?

Yeah, how about a report on the Axio !

    Horn

Hey, John Do I understand you correctly in that you didn't change any of the stock wiring and didn't add a relay? All you did (aside from the brackets) was replace the horns with 2 Freeway Blasters? I guess this means that the blasters don't draw any more amps than the stock horns, right...

    Cowling Adjustment

The info I got from Yamaha says OUT is warmer because it directs cool air away from the rider. IN is cooler because it doesn't direct cool air away from the rider.

Is the FJR the culmination of your dreams in a motorcycle?

For someone who has lusted after a Guzzi, I'm curious what the problems were with the Norge?

    Any Alternative to Corbin Smuggler?

How about one of these: https://www.axio-usa.com/tailbag_blue.html

    Tie down points

I used to have a gold wing with a luggage rack mounted on top of its tail trunk. This was a great place to strap light stuff like a sleeping bag and/or a tent. This left room in the trunk and side bags for other stuff.

    Windshield change

How do you like the Givi screen, Griff? There hasn't been much talk about that one on this forum. It doesn't come in any tints, right? Have you tried any other screens. How does this compare?

    06/07 Fairing/Cowl Vents

This is the explanation of how they work that I got from a Yamaha "Product Specialist".

Having A Dealer Perform Work On Your FJR

I, unfortunately, had a similar rant not long ago. There's at least a handful of Yamaha dealers within 50 miles of me and I wouldn't trust any of them when it comes to service. That's why I started buying a bunch of new tools.

    08 FJR or 08 Ducati s2r 1000?

I have a 1000S Multistrada in addition to my FJR. The Multi has the same engine as the S2R1000. I love them both and wouldn't want to part with either. I recommend you buy both! If you can't then it would depend on what type of riding you'll be doing. For long distance or 2-up with luggage...

How fast can YOU take your FJR apart and reassemble?

This makes perfect sense to me except the dealers in my area are incompetent. So, I have a better chance of getting it right by doing it myself with the help of this forum and a service manual. :dribble:

    Self-tapping Drain Plug

I attempted a Perma-coil (like a heli coil) but the insert would't stay in when removing the drain plug. It seemed like the oil pan material was too soft to allow the insert to lock into it. So, I bit the bullit and bought all the parts to replace the pan from Ron Ayers. It's a time consuming...

    '06 Oil an Replaacement

Nevermind gents, I was able to get the headers off without removing the radiator :yahoo: I just removed the bottom bracket and was able to move the radiator forward enough to get at the header bolts. But, I'm still wondering whether the manual is right. Does it make sense that you should...

    '06 Oil an Replaacement

I'm attempting to replace the oil pan on my '06. The '06/'07 service manual says you need to remove the throttle bodies in order to remove the radiator? This doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Actually, it looks like I may be able to get the headers off without removing the radiator...
