    Rear caliper

Sorry came to this link a bit late. I've two non ABS FJRs and an ABS one and can confirm that the rear calipers are interchangeable. I've fitted an ABS rear caliper to one of the non ABS bikes. The only difference is the position of the bleed nipple.

FJR Unsuitable for Passenger with Top Box Fitted?

Another +1 for the Givi rack. My 2003 has now done 122,000 miles often severely overloaded and two up and I've had no issues with the sub frame. https://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu4/fudgejerkin1188/Pyrenees%202012/Readytogo2012001.jpg

    ticker parts and labor list

Is the bike down on performance or burning oil ? if not why fix what isn't broken. My bikes has been "ticking" ( confirmed by a Yamaha mechanic) for the last 80,000 miles, it doesn't need oil top up between changes (every 6,000 miles) and is not down on performance. I have had a new head...

    Rear subframe failure poll

I use a Givi top box all the time and its mounted on a givi 5 point rack. Its regularly well overloaded and I've has no issues in 122,000 miles. https://i628.photobucket.com/albums/uu4/fudgejerkin1188/Days%20out/Readytogo2012004.jpg...

    FJR 1300A with inverted fork

Kebo, Spoke to a Yamaha rep at the NEC bike show . Sorry to disappoint you but the USD forks and electronic suspension is not going to be an option on standard Euro bike for 2013. He didn't rule it out as something Yamaha may introduce as future model development though.

Confirming my Valve Lash Check Research

Its also worth buying 4 of the smaller o rings. If its the first time you've done the job there is a good chance you will pinch an o ring the first time you try putting the coolant pipe back in.

Look for thoughts & comments on bent shifting fork

Similar problem with one of my bikes but shifting forks were a lot worse and the dogs rounded. I ended up replacing the whole gearbox with a good second hand one

running bad (feeling blessed)...limped home (walking on air)

WOW just read this thread from start to where we are now (it certainly ain't the end). Excellent seeing a community pull together like this to get someone doing such valuable role supporting the armed forces back on the road. Whilst the engine is out why not a complete "super service" of the...

    Rear shock linkage maintenance

I like the hole and the notch idea. You could always brace either version by welding in a bit of steel tube the correct diameter for the linkage bolt (and socket) to pass through.

    Rear shock linkage maintenance

Fudgejerkin (FJ) was a cartoon character used by the UK FJOC in its early days. 1188cc is the capacity of my beloved 1988 FJ1200, I just combined the two.

    Rear shock linkage maintenance

I've tried it in the UK as an experiment but reverted back to standard as it didn't stop the bearings corroding. The centre bearing is easy to do but the two end bearings present a problem. You can't drill the outer race of the bearing as suggested as its a hardened precision bearing face and...

    Shorai battery

Is this just a US thing ? all three of my gen 1 FJRs have OEM Yamaha heated grips with intelligent controller

    Datel

I'm using a three wire volt meter from ADVmonster, no need for relays and only comes on with the ignition

    Top Trunk on Gen III

Yamaha give the same warning on the 39l version. They have never recommended using top box and bags together though loads of people do and I've not heard of it causing any problems.

    Hung in 4th & 5th & lights go out.

I've only come across it once and it was on an FJ1200 that I fixed for a friend (same symptoms). Shift rod is a very similar design to the FJR. I just swapped his shift rod compete with damaged spring for one of my spares. To change the rod on an FJR involves a fair bit of burrowing so I think...

    Rear shock linkage maintenance

Donal, I agree but my fear of snapping the lug off the frame is greater than my desire to free off the collar. I may build up the courage to do it one of these days.

    fjr2009 fuel pump

Have they actually tested the pump ? they are pretty reliable but do go wrong, I've had one fail.

Seeking Help with an Electronics Diagnostic Routine

I've been using Gerbing heated equipment for about 10 years . In that time I've found the controllers to be 100% reliable. The only clothing to have given me any grief has always been the left glove (three gloves now), Gerbing say its down to use of the clutch causing wear in the internal...
