    51,003 Miles and first failure

Took the bike for inspection today and failed due to catastrophic failure - high beam indicator light burned out!  Yup, in VA you fail inspection for that.  Anyone out there replaced their indicator lights - mechanic recommended I replace them all and I agree.  Any tips or suggestions are...

How to remove Plexsus from Shoei pinlock insert??

I've been using Plexsus almost since I bout the bike in '05.  I use it on all of the lights, mirrors, windscreen, helmet visors, and car headlights.  Never had any fogging or haze where I've used it.  Last week I took the pinlock insert (clear) and cleaned it with Plexsus - not good.  It came...

    Back after 10 years!

After being gone for about 10 years I finally got back onboard thanks to Ignacio's help.  Interesting reading my old posts and especially satisfying to see so many folks I recognize are still alive and riding!  My most recent wonderful experience was getting a nail in a 2,000 mile tire.  Patched...

Looking for an 05 panel #28

During the many times I've taken the A,B,C, and D panels off I've tightened one of the fasteners on #28 too tight and have cracked the plastic around the silver hex-head fastener. It's the blue panel that goes around the top of the "glove department" on the left side. I've seen prices from $128...

My thoughts after 42k and 5 years on Matilda (mostly about farkles)

    1. Fork Brace - Put it on after about a year. Seemed to work well and made a positive difference. When I changed tires this last time, I didn’t put it back on just to see the difference. I like it much better without the brace. I think my skills have improved and the brace doesn’t add anything...

    My Son

Last August I told you all that our son Jim was diagnosed with a Ewings sarcoma - a pediatric tumor in his 26 year old clevis bone (base of the skull). Jim has undergone chemo from roughly Jul 09 until about 3 weeks ago. In the middle of that (and in addition to the chemo) he received radiation...

    Room up for grabs

Electrical Problem that went away (lurking no doubt)

Original post here: https://www.fjrforum.com/forum//index.php?showtopic=120631 To recap: 2 miles from home engine died while sitting at a light -- gauges remained on -- engine started right up. Later that day, engine died a few minutes after starting -- gauges remained on -- engine started...

Finally Happened -- Bike = Dead (Coma?)

2005.5/38k miles/no previous problems. Numerous electrical farkles. All connections soldered, dielectric grease, and heat shrink. I don't think it's one of my connections, but will check. - Today, left house at 0645, approx 15 minutes later sat at a light and the engine died - gauges stayed on...

    Family

Our 26 year old son Jim was diagnosed with cancer a couple of weeks ago. He has a tumor in the base of his skull (Ewings). The Doc says it's "very curable," but the treatment isn't a cake walk. We would appreciate your prayers for Jim, he can use all he can get. Thanks, Jim and Lorie

    Race Tech Support

I replaced my fork springs in Aug 2006 with Race Tech 1.1kg spring rate springs. The spring rate calculator on the Race Tech site had me (190lbs of hard-charging, low crawling, straight shooting, sex appeal!) at a 1.167 rate. So I got and installed the 1.1 springs. Well, for 3 years I rode...

    Suspension Book

I've developed a renewed interest in tuning my suspension. Since I like to read and understand something before diving in, I bought "Sportbike Suspension Tuning" by Andrew Trevitt last week. The book is well written and easy to understand - it provides a solid understanding of what the...

    05 ABS FRONT SENSOR BOLT

Well, I finally lost a fastener - the allen head bolt that holds the front ABS sensor on an 05. Anybody happen to have an extra! Thanks.

    TachOmeter Burp

Left work the other day and as I was on the on-ramp to 95 I look at my tach and it reads ~200 rpm! Get on 95 and at 70mph it reads 1500rpm - should read ~4100. Figure I might get to use my YES before it expires. Get off 95 and stop at a light, needle burps, from then on the tach is just fine...

    Thanks to JStewart

JStewart sent me the power commander map he had done for his 05. I didn't do anything with it for a couple of months, but finally put it in last weekend. Really nice map! I've used the stock 05 w/no PC; the 001 map w/O2 sensor removed (to me both were pretty similar); the Wally Smoothness...

    05 Left Side Upper Cowling

This is the Galaxy BLue cowling piece (left) that wraps around the glovebox. Over the years I've overtightened the allex head screw closest to the fuel tank and it spidered - a piece fell off last week when I was removing all the plastic for maintenance. I tried to glue the small piece back on...

    Installing a Wireless Network

Ok, bought Lorie a brand spankin' new Dell Laptop. Also bought a Netgear WNR2000 wireless router. Instructions say "Insert the CD..." I did. Hit setup. Screen says - The Network adapter in this computer is not responding. Must use a computer with a working ethernet adapter. Click...

    Table Saws

I know opinions are tough to get here, but would like some about a table saw. I am a competent woodworker - have made bookcases, table or two, etc. I bought a cheap-ass foreign table saw 10 years ago knowing it was a cheap-ass table saw and it has proven itself over the years. I need to get a...
