I saw the solenoid as you pointed out and removed the coils even, but never realized that they came apart. I do now!!!!, and hopefully others do too. there was another post where the CC just stopped working for them also.

I had the exact thing happen to my Audiovox cruise control. Never could figure out what the problem was so I replaced it with a Rostra unit. It is totally electronic and requires no vacuum or vacuum canister. It works much better than the old Audiovox.
