Is this "can't transfer title with active recall" total BS? I don't want any dealer touchin my FJR. Besides, my ground spiders are gone, cut'em out and soldered a heavy gauge wire back to the battery. I'd have to have a whole new harness. Probably total it before I sell it anyway!

It's probably that the dealer can't transfer title per Yamaha instructions. Don't know how Yamaha could prevent a private sale, but maybe there's something in the Fed Regs that prevents it. For what it's worth, however, it would make prudent that if you ever do transfer title without the recall being done, be sure to give FULL disclosure of the fact that the recall hasn't been done to the buyer before the deal is done.

I would think it is up to the buyer to research the status of recalls and discuss with you the owner before sale time. Lots of vehicles are transferred domestically without recalls being done. Dealers are interested in recalls because they get to do the repairs on the manufacturer's dime. All you can do is check with your local DMV........

Now, if a US bike is being imported by a Canadian, there does have to be a recall letter from the manufacturer or a dealer to say that all outstanding recalls have been addressed before the Canadian can transfer the title.

From a legal standpoint, if Craigslist has that notice, and you list a recalled item without fully disclosing that the recall has not been done, the buyer could legitmately assume that any recalls were done. If, later on, the buyer found out it wasn't . . . :angry2:

not worried bout that. Just if a tital transfer could be held up. No way my ground can fail now, pretty beefy. 10 gauge if I remember right, back to front. Headlights and rad. fan have their own as well.

Sounds like you've got their number. I doubt they will even have to touch your CC install in order to attach the supplemental harness. I would definitely look for another dealer.
Unfortunately, all of the other dealerships are pretty far away. Ride Now has a near monopoly on Yamaha dealerships around Phoenix.

I called Yamaha, and while they would not commit to covering the extra work without having an estimate on it from the dealer, I was told that they would not have a problem covering any extra labor due to the servo location. I have the product specialist's direct phone number to give to the dealer to call when/if they get to the point where they would need to R/R the Cruise servo.

I also want to point out that the Yamaha reps to whom I spoke were very courteous, understanding and helpful. I was kind of surprised I didn't even get a lecture on the dangers of adding non-OEM modifications. :)

So I'll probably take the bike back to the same dealer this afternoon and hope for the best. I guess if it ends up costing me $100 or so do get the work done, it's probably still worth it to know the problem has been addressed.

I also should probably mention that the only work I've actually had done at this dealership before was other recall work on the FJR, and that process went very smoothly. Other times I have considered having them do service on my bikes, but their estimates always scared me off.

I have a MC Cruise Control, from the people in Australia. I gather from an earlier message that's the cruise you have. There should be no additional time to make the Yamaha ground connection. There is an item on the cruise control called the "cable interface unit", it is a black plastic box about 3"x3"x1" that is close to the S4 spyder, but there is enough room to do the work. See my pictures below.

BTW, my spyder looks good, I am going to my local dealer to have the work done next week.

It would be interesting to run a poll to find out for everyone who has brought in their bike for the recall, which had no spider problems, and which had spider problems. Might give us on the Forum a better sense of how widespread it was.

Just a suggestion.

 
Mine was fixed this week at the dealer. The service manager said the original harness wasn't damaged so they just installed the recall fix.

Good as new, I hope.

 
Recall fix completed today. No damage so sub-harness installed. Had them do a TBS while they were in there. Cost me $34.00. I'm lucky that the tech at my dealership who works on my bike is both competent and professional. No drama, done deal.

 
Recall harness installed today. No further damage detected. Had them install spark plugs at the same time since they were in area. $50 including labor, plugs and tax..

So, now just have to install the Roadrunner (Art) fix next week and should be good to go.

 
Take it to the Great Evil Ride Now dealerships at your own peril. You only have yourself to blame when they screw something up or their customer service sucks moist ass cheese.
Yeah, I know the reputation. I was realizing that my aversion to them has been based on that reputation more than my actual experiences with their service department. Hopefully my luck will continue. :)

 
Called dealer yesterday, said they will order the sub-lead and call to setup appointment when it comes in. He told me they have did six so far and none were damaged. Also asked about installing plugs and TBS which he said would be $135 for both. I guess that's a decent price.

 
Stopped in Iron Pony's service center last Thursday and made an appointment for Saturday. Took ole' blue in around 9:30 and was out of there around noon. I was impressed, they had a lot of bikes to work on and got me on my way pretty quickly. I did ask if they'd done any harness recalls and I was the 3rd. The bike looked just like when I took it in, other than a few handprints. No big deal. They didn't even notice the Roadrunner harnesses. I'm gonna lift the tank and check out their work when I get the pair valve cover plates I just bought from kartooo.

Dropped my bike off on Saturday , 23rd, and I knew it would be an entire harness replacement. The dealership would have to order the harness AFTER verifying the damage. The black cap on my S4 had a hole melted through it and I had to chip away some of the melted plastic that holds the pins just to remove the spider when I did a temp fix 1.5 years ago. Sucks 'cause it is my daily commuter. I was lucky enough to borrow a friends '05 DR650 until it is fixed. I just wish there were some dirt trails on my way to work!

Hey! Everyone's entitled to 1 screw up! Lesson learned....stick with the $$$ OEM pads. :)
