Update:

DJB is an outstanding person. He has helped me make a list of parts, he helped hook me up with his dealer and got me a LARGE discount, and is willing to help do whatever it takes to get my bike back on the road. It looks like we can do it for half of what the dealer wanted, that is if there are not too many surprises when we open it up. I am going to rent a Uhaul to get the bike up to his house, and I installed a hitch to my wife's suv. When the parts come in and we can setup a date, DJB is going to post up a kind of tech day so others who are interested can come and learn about front end disassembly/reassembly. We might also take pics and start a thread on the repair.

Thank you everyone for your help, information, and opinions. Given I will have bike that has been down (will be hard to sell) I will definitely be around for a long time, yeah! ;-)

That shit right there is awsome.Bob

I am absolutely amazed at the generosity of people on this forum, as well as the motorcycle "community" as a general group. I have been a member of this forum ever since lusting after this bike, and this has been an amazing wealth of information due to so many people's hard work and willingness to devote their time to helping others. THANK YOU TO ALL MEMBERS! I hope I can help someone else too, and be able to "pay it forward" in some way.

Kudos to you DJB! :clapping: You are doing an awesome thing. :clapping:

If I could buy you a beer or three I would. When I had bike issues...it really is disheartening until someone from the board comes alongside and helps you get things going again. :yahoo:

Awesome! Just awesome!

Awesome job DJB!

This place is a wealth of information and the folks aren't too bad either... ;)

Good luck with the repairs.

I've parted out a lot of bikes. Parting out isn't all the difficult if you have a decent set of tools, a manual, and patience. It takes about 10X as much skill to properly reassemble a bike.

In your situation I'd part out the bike. Even with the very generous offer you got from DJB you'll almost certainly have as much or more into it when you are done than it would cost you to get a nice used replacement.

If it was me I'd get a decent rider (SV is a great choice!) for this season and take my time parting out the crashed bike. This approach assumes you don't mind tinkering and have the time, tools and space to do the disassembly plus the ability to sell on Ebay.

Selling on ebay can be profitable but it means a lot of time taking pics, answering questions, &packing and shipping
