I am a new FJR owner and am interested in some long distance (for me) riding. My son recently did a SS1000 and he wants to do another official ride. We have seen posts about rallies in Texas that are of particular interest, since he lives in San Antonio. It would be a good excuse for us to get together to ride one of these events, but we just don't know where to find out about them. The Heart of Texas Rally was 12 hours long. I like that. And not just Texas, anywhere.

Would this site be a good source?

Thanks,

Richard

The Iron Butt Association has an event calendar that lists several events:

If you're looking for a rally in Texas, I can't recommend the BigTex Rally enough, Wayne puts on a great event and a benefit of the 36-hour rally is that you get a month to plan. See https://www.bigtexrally.com/

If you want something shorter and closer to home (your location is listed as Santa Maria, CA) there is the Park And Ride Rally in Southern California which is an 8 hour event. Planning is a week ahead. See https://parknride.bmwcosc.com

If you're willing to travel just a bit north, Discover Kern County is a lot of fun. Also an 8 hour event, but riders have only gotten an hour to plan in the last two years which can be somewhat frantic.

See https://www.discoverkerncounty200.com

Give one a try, they're a lot of fun.

I've participated in (IIRC) four Heart of Texas Rallies. Every one has been great (exception: in 2013 I did not finish, but I blame the ER doctor for that). James and Karen make it a really fun event. The last few have been 12 hour rallies, but I've heard rumors that 2015 will have a 24 hour option. This rally is usually in late April.

The Big Tex rally is I think full for 2014. I almost registered, but 36 hours seems like a big jump from 12. I kind of wish I'd signed up. Maybe in 2015. The motorcycle touring forum hosts the Ride Around Texas Rally, another big ride.

Many IBA type rallies are using the Ridemaster site these days, that's a great resource.

I wish we in Texas had a fall 12 or 24 hour rally, hint hint.

The 80hour is full but I think there are a few spots left in the 36 hour Big Tex.

I can endorse both the Heart of Texas and the Big Tex Rally.

I've ridden in the last three of the HOT, and the last two BTR.

Both are awesome.
