Will a Gen 3 shock mount directly with no mods to an '04 ? If not, will a Gen 2 swap ? Thanks all !

Yes to all years, straight swap.

I thought that the spring rate was different (higher)on the Gen II, III - maybe not enough to matter? AS far as Gen II and III are concerned, the geometry is the same but some people have mentioned that the Gen III are better. If you are buying new, you will find Gen III to be cheaper. Even in the Gen III, some years have a different part # and not all are priced the same.

As many complained about the Gen 1 being "Undersprung" the Gen 3 shock assy seems to remedy that condition.

There are several similar threads to this one where I have posted the latest Gen 3 assy part #. The going price seems to be about $375.

Thanks to everyone for your responses confirm what I "thought."
Since you live here in the Greenville area, perhaps you would be interested in riding

with other FJR'ers. There is a thread in the FJRiders forum where locals post their rides.

Just sayin.
