When I bought my '07 it had some scratches on the movable panel on the left of the bike from a very minor off road excursion from the previous owner. Rather than paint the panel I decided to try some 3M carbon Fiber wrap. Since my company has implemented a use it or lose it policy with regard to vacation I had some spare time on my hands so......

I didn't think it was too bad for a first attempt.

It looks quite nice. I loved that color. I had an '06 AE, and someone who was buying an '07 had to have that grey livery, so the dealer swapped the tupperware, and my '06 was decked out in those colors. Thanks for sharing.

looks like it was well worth the time.

Nice! How long'd it take to wrap?

That looks really good. Wrapping the side panels on my '14 might look pretty sweet - do you have any info on where you got the material?

Hmm, you guys might have pushed me over. Scooter, that piece below the tank, how hard was it to do? That's probably the one piece I really want to do as I don't like mine on my bike. Love the trim on the saddle bags, looks great.

Skooter - that looks great. The nose piece looks sweet but not sure I want to disassemble that much..hehe. The little bit on the bags look surprisingly good too.

I was thinking the side panels might compliment the carbon cover on the Seat Concepts seat I have coming.

Are you guys using something like this? https://www.amazon.com/3M-Scotchprint-Carbon-Fiber-Vinyl/dp/B0058DIDTY

For a first attempt it took about 20 mins for this one panel. I am going to do it again as there are a couple of imperfections that will mess with my head if I don't.

That's the exact stuff that I used.

Skooter that is exactly what I was talking about with the 15 and wrapping the black parts. I would personally start with the tail piece - why is that not color matched to the gray? The shroud on the tank is the other piece that I would wrap.

Thanks for using the 3M stuff - we'll make more.

Looks good.
I've had some fun with my 2014 FJR also.

ScooterG, Nice work!! I did the tank trim piece and the bib behind the front wheel using the 3M product. I really like the look of the side panels so I may do that as well. For those who plan to implement this, make sure you clean the surfaces well and you will need a hair dryer or heat gun to warm up the 3M film and shape it onto the uneven surfaces.

I should have asked before I bought, but whatever, I'll figure it out. Haha...so some of you know I did this to my bags a while back, due to scratches:

My goal was to see how they looked, and if I liked them, I would remove the PlastiDip and just paint them black. I have the paint, but I'm a chicken. I don't know if I want to go that permanent or not. Have been thinking about sending them to Gary, but next time I drop it, it'll be the same BS.

So...Skooter's work gave me an idea. I'm going to try wrapping the bottom of the bags with the CF wrap. Same area that is black in the above pic will be the same area I wrap. Will that one roll be enough to accomplish that? That's what I should have asked before I bought. I'm going to use Christmas wrapping paper to build a pattern first and then use the 3M.

I guess we'll see how it works. If I mess it up, I'd bet Autozone or someone sells the wrap. I'll know in a few days when it arrives.

There are some good videos on Youtube to show how to wrap curved surfaces such as rear view mirrors etc. One suggestion that might be good in the case of the side cases is to pre-stretch the wrap material and then when you add heat again it should shrink to conform to the surface.
