Notice that they don't show da Touring Trunk so the passenger has to assume the "I love you" pillion position. I think Yamaha admits that the wart on the ass trunk isn't so cool looking.

Of course that's assuming that we get the same trunk. A huge plus in my eye.

Fred, I would never challenge your FJR knowledge but I think you are off base this time. I think a "Cougar" is an older woman after a younger man. I honestly have no idea what the hell you call a gay cowboy. I made the mistake of clicking on the link Beemerdons posted and could not get the damn thing closed fast enough. Whatever else has been said of SkooterG I don't believe he is going to be any part of that BrokeBack Mountain fiasco.

At least 50% of the parties listed are big into dancing up cougars. The other 50% wish they were, but they are too old.

Taller gears would impact the low end response right? For that reason (not a big deal to me) I would rather have a 6 speed gear box is the same reason I'm jealous a friend of mine gets better highway gas mileage out of his Z-06 than I do in my G35.

I would love to see the tach reading 3K RPM at 70MPH.

I actually prefer 5 gears. I just wish they would make 5th a little higher. 4K at 75 doesn't make a lot of sense on a touring bike. Even running 500 less would make all the difference.

I don't know much about tranny's, if they were to raise 5th gear would they have to raise 1-4 as well?

The gap between 4th and 5th is the smallest ratio gap in the box. A taller 5th would make a lot of sense. All I know is that the Canadian site listed "revised" for lower RPMs at cruise.

No reason it would have to affect the other gears, every ratio is just a pair of wheels.

A step in the right direction, but not nearly enough to make me trade my custom-painted, well-farkled '06 for this newer model. Same suspension, same brakes, same engine, same gearbox (mostly) and the same wheels and rearend. Minor changes at best, and why would I trade my FJR for one that is no better than the one I have?

Is it too early to bitch? Why can't a bike that knows what gear it is in, what speed it is going, throttle position, and whether not the brakes are being applied, has all sorts of other whiz-bang technology, not have self cancelling turn signals? It should be easy for a computer programmer to come up with a solution given all the info available. Yes, I still forget to turn them off every time, and I see plenty of others with the same affliction. To me it's a safety issue, cancelers should be mandatory.

Other than that, I like it. Thankfully, they didn't make a change to a 6 speed gearbox.

Some excellent info. and ideas in this post. It has helped me make up my mind on whether to buy a new FJR or spend a few bucks on my superior Gen. 1.

I plan to go ahead and upgrade the suspension (my main complaint), cut down the windshield a bit and add new tires - job done!! I'll be good for another ten years.

". . . LED lights tend to be very directional. Which makes me wonder why they moved the turn signal running lights to the leading edge of the fairing.

I don't know what they've put in those side marker housings, but LEDs lighting offers a LOT of variety. For example, I've replaced one of my taillight bulbs with one that looks something like this to save a couple electrons--and outlast a standard 1157 bulb.

It's as bright as any 1157, even though it doesn't brighten when I use the brake. That's why I only have one. The other bulb brightens, and so does all my aux lighting back there. But the point is, LEDs just keep getting better and better, cheaper and cheaper, and more and more versatile. (The stores now have dimmable LEDs for home lighting so we can start to get away from those worthless CFLs soon, I hope).

Yamaha has already put some LEDs into the '13's (the edge lighting around the headlights). so maybe they're also using something with multiple aimed LEDs, similar to the picture, in those side markers. Good idea, if they did. Tough bulb to get to to replace.

Nice side-by-side comparison. For us PNWet folks, it *looks* like the new fairing design provides better foot protection against the elements. Makes me want to get an up close look of the '13...sooner rather than later!

I cant wait to see one in a showroom. I am super stoked about this!!! I am trying to figure how I can get on one before spring of next year. This is awesome. Anyone want a 04 with trunk and V stream? 4000 it yours even will make sure it has a full tank of gas. Mamma Yama just freaking made my day. I have found my perfect bike. Even if I would have to upgrade the suspension. The dash alone makes me drool. I could stare at that for hours on end.

I'm sorry, but publicly admitting that you're not qualified to operate your machine because you can't turn off your own goddamn turn signal disqualifies you from criticizing how the bike is equipped.

Safety oversight???!!!?!?! The safety flaw is putting someone on a 145-hp bike who thinks the bike should take care of him instead of the other way around.

Sorry if it pisses you off, but dayum!!! How hard is it to mash the middle of the button after your turn???
