Can I see a show of hands :bye: for riders who may occasionally give the thumbs down to Hummers as they go by? :thumbsdownsmileyanim:

Sometimes I just can't help myself....

No. Usually too busy weaving around pious-assed Prius drivers who are holding up traffic......... :) :) :) :D

Thinking of my recent trip to LA for New Years: :clapping:  :yess:

I really do understand the concept, even if I can't afford to participate (I need my pickup for projects). I don't understand their need to block the left lane @ 3 mph under the speed limit. Wouldn't you think that those who are of their persuasion would realize how much more gasoline is burned by those vehicles having to slow and then speed back to the speed limit.

BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! I know what you mean... They're either putting along at sub-light speeds or doing the Rush Hour Marengue at supersonic speeds. I wish the Hummers would run those fuckers over!

I keed, I keed! I wish no one harm. Much. ;)

Curious, but why? They're not any worse than a Suburban or lots of the other superheavies people drive for no reason except ego. GM powerplant, common drivetrain economies. Ford and Dodge aren't much different. Why drive a V10 around empty 99% of the time?

Face it, even riding an FJR isn't based on rationality. It's a DESIRE. What makes our choices superior to those of others? Fuel economy? Puleeze. We eat tires at a rate the superheavies will never have to suffer. Economy per mile is roughly equivalent.

And no, I don't have a superheavy, but I have an FJR. :)

I concede your point. As a philosophy major (B.A., Berkeley, Class of '78 :graduated: ), I am a fairly reflective person. Before I bought the FJR (really, before I bought my first bike, a Sportster), I never had ANY interest in vehicles. Period. Now I have a major jones for the FJR. I love it and I hope it loves me back. So being the self-proclaimed self-reflective guy I am, I realize folks buy vehicles because they think they're cool, project their preferred image, etc., whatever. QED--I am no better than the Hummer driver.

But they're assholes and I'm not. So f**k 'em!* :glare:

*I'm going to opt out of the "Jb, ever do asshole stuff on the FJR?" argument. :glare:

Sooo....we hate the super-economical, and the super-sized, while both of those drivers hate motorcycles. <_<

I hate anyone who blocks the left lane.

Economy per mile is roughly equivalent.
$295.00 in fuel to go 1000 miles in the Land Cruiser.

$90.00 to go the same distance on the bike.

Quick math says I save $525.00 in fuel costs during the life of a rear tire over driving the Crusher. Last time I bought a rear tire it was about $150.00 mounted. Fronts go about twice as far, so I still see a pretty substantial savings, but if I'm wrong, please don't point it out. I like the delusion just the way it is.

And then there's the fun factor. I've had more fun in 35,000 miles on the bike than all the previous miles to date combined. Somehow, I don't think the Hummer drivers can honestly say the same....

But I don't do stuff to intentionally piss off people in other vehicles unless they draw first blood.

Gawd awful monstrosities those hummers they are. Especially in a city like San Francisco. The San Francisco hummer club was featured on the show "Trucks" and I couldn't help but laugh at the irony....

Never anybody a down digit for their vehicle choice. Personal choice is great....I'd hate to judged on my hoopty-of-choice. Why should I care what somebody else chooses themself as long as they're not affecting others. If we did it....we're in a serious minority folks and a bunch of cagers could vote us off the island.

....I'm just sayin'.

However, the lane squatting thing......two digits from the thumb and raised on rare occasion. But far better even is to go by, turn my helmet with a stare, and then shake my head with disappointment.....like Mom would. Oddly, this act has gotten me several middle fingers --one from an indignant chick in an Accord with a cell phone growing out of her ear and some words she mouthed that clearly indicated she wasn't talking with her mother on the phone and an F250 Turbo Diesel that then tried to chase me down and run me over. ....I gave him the finger as I dropped two gears and went plaid.

Wouldn't matter what I did, most Hummers around here have those itsy-bitsy windows tinted so dark they couldn't see me anyway.

Oh, the vehicular hummers. Now as for the other type...

I don't have a problem with Hummers. I have an F250 diesel so I won't cast stones. I can't hate a vehicle. Now drivers, on the other hand...I hate plenty of them. The person that drives below the speed limit in the left lane. The person that slows to 15 on the highway to watch someone across the median change their flat tire. The person next to you at a stop light who plays their stereo so loud that, even with your windows up, they vibrate the fillings out of your teeth. I can go on all day but I'll just end up tailgating somebody on my way home. Did I mention how much I hate tailgaters?

as a reference point, the last set of TA All-Terrain tires I put on my PU truck lasted well over 75k miles and were still okay. I simply swapped them out for new rubber when i gave the truck to my kids as their first vehicle. i swapped the OEM tires on my 1996 GMC Sierra for TA All-Terrains at the first tire change and haven't had to put new tires on since (now at 112k miles).

OTOH, a set of tires on the FJR will last me 4k miles (BT020) to 10k (PR) and cost me about $300 per swap. Cost (economy of wallet) isn't as important in a discussion like this as is economy of resources. As such, i would expect the total energy/resources cost for my 4 TA All-Terrains (since 1999 or 2000 when installed) to be much less than the tires i've burned up on the FJR since 10/2002.

But even more importantly...

UC Berkley?????????? In philosophy? Really? How much dope did that diploma take when you used it for your summer blunt?

No wonder you're angry at the world.
