Unhappy FJR owners?

I guess I don't understand....I don't post much but spend a lot of time reading the posts that are on here daily.It seems every week we see posts that read "Looking for an alternative to the FJR", "Can't ride my FJR longer than 1-2 hours, need different bike, give me your opinion." "Bike too tall, need a different one" " bike is top heavy can't deal with it". Well, I'm going to start a crap fest of opinions because here are my answers to those questions:

-If the bike was too tall, why did you buy it?

-I can ride my FJR for 10-12 hours a day, with easy mileage of over 500+ a day with very little issues, why the hell are you so picky?

-This isn't a car, if you didn't want your ass to hurt after an all day ride, buy a car, live in boredom. There's a little thing called "no pain, no gain", if you want the enjoyment of riding a bike, deal with being uncomfortable or buy a cruiser. Your ass will still hurt, trust me, I used to ride a VTX1800.

-If you want to complain about how your bike doesn't fit you, that you're not comfortable riding it, or don't feel confident riding it. Stop bitching and do something about it...Sell it, modify it, or give it away.

I personally believe that FJR's are the best Sport Tourer on the road in comfort, speed, agility and overall performance. I've ridden many different bikes and they all have their issues. stop wasting the forum's time. If you don't like your bike, do something about it.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

Ray, many of us feel this way. At 6'2" x 32" inseam, 250 lbs, there aren't many motorcycles that "fit" me. As a grown-up (well, semi grown-up) I've learned to adapt what ever vehicle I own to fit my physical size and psychological/emotional needs and desires (some would just say, "Psycho!").

In the current state of emotional being of the American populace, complaining about things that aren't perfect is the common and mostly accepted response.

We must first understand that every motorcycle isn't a match to every persons needs. Alas, I'm afraid that's a normal outcome and especially since the PDP ended and a buyer can walk into a dealer without doing the homework/research many of us did before we made our decision, placed our deposit and waited for our FJR to arrive. From our reading before our bike arrived and following the exploits of the LD riders (for me, Warchild, Bounce, Hmark, ocfjr and others) I knew the seat would probably not be made for a rider my size. Coming from a touring bike and used to a more upright position (with mild arthritis and other degenerative muscular/skeletal issues) I guessed the risers might also be needed. No windshield is perfect.

Secondly, we should understand that many people purchase this "bike of their dreams" and will be disappointed that it doesn't automatically fulfill their hopes and desires and it just doesn't fit.

Our best hope is that they can and will find the perfect bike for them and continue to enjoy motorcycling as a hobby and sport.

Until then, I'll continue to smile every time I see mine in the parking lot, in my garage, while riding, etc., etc., etc.

Stock maybe a case could be made for it lacking some personal touches. That is what farkling is all about! I have see a few of the FJR's that are just awesome from paint ,seats to electronics and make mine look like a homely girl at the Prom

-I am 6' 4" tall and about 275lbs. I knew that I would have to have a custom seat made prior to buying the bike..Hence the $650 that went to Rich's custom seats, its all good.

-That brings up exactly what you said about the state of our nation right now. Too many people think that if they just bitch about it long enough some "messiah" of a government worker will come fix the problem for them. Here's a novel concept, fix the problem yourself, learn something and make yourself valuable enough to actually be a marketable employee. If not, move to China, work in a sweat factory and enjoy communism.

If you cant tell, I don't have many opinions on topics.

I believe the FJR is excellent given 28 other choices I've tried since 1960. To prove that, I've owned three - '06, 7, 8 - interspersed with several other types of bikes since 2006. I keep coming back to the FJR for some strange reason, like that old girlfriend you swore you'd never see again. Magic just is.

I have a complaint about my FJR...I am active duty Air Force and live on base, my commander hasnt said we are allowed to ride on base yet so I had to push my bike 3.8 miles to get it off base cause none of my boys with trailers would wake up early enough to help me trailer it out the gate. So with that I would have to say I hat my FJR when I have to push it before I can ride it. Other than that I wouldnt trade it for anything, well maybe for a cool million. Than I would just buy another one or two!

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but I've found there are less owner complaints on this forum vs. other specific bike forums. Overall, I'd say the FJR is one of the least complained about motorcycles, there is. That's because there's so little to complain about. I've had nothing to complain about, myself. As a matter of fact, it has so little character (read problems/glitches), that the damn thing's almost boring.

Reading a weekly post here, complaining about ergos is nothing. What a joke! Try some other bike forum. Check the dailies, please. Previously, I had a Triumph Tiger. I loved the thing, and I had a lot of fun with it, but the posts on the Triumph forums were numerous about it's failures (which I experienced, myself). That was nothing compared to my BrokenMotorWorks, of course - those people on BMW forums about come to blows, arguing over the junk engineering of those things. And the defenders! I swear, many bike forums seem populated/operated by factory reps, waiting for a negative comment, so they can pounce on the offender. You'll get your butt banned, if you have a serious issue. Moderators are likely to send you a PM like this: This forum is intended to share information and experiences about the BIKE X motorcycle, for people who are enthusiasts about the BIKE X. Your negative complaints about your ownership experiences are not welcome. The BIKE X has proven itself to be blah - blah - blah, and blah - blah - blah. Perhaps you should consider some other type of bike.

I haven't seen that, here. Not even reading through some of the 'ticker' threads of the past. Most of the complainers about the FJR, as observed, are new to the bike, and haven't shaken out the ergonomics, yet.

Gee... Personally, I always hate my new motorcycles. Firstly, because they kill me. They kill my disposition, kill my wrists, kill my ears, kill my legs, kill kill kill my back... They're just junk. Every one of them has been. I also hate the color. Whenever I get a new bike, I always get the worst color they paint. It's ugly. Everyone else has a better color, but since the bike is junk anyway, I suppose it shouldn't matter...

2,000 miles later, I love it. Best bike I ever had (with the exception of BMW, that is). Beautiful color, too.

Maybe I've missed some posts, but it seems to me that there are few real problem owners. I watch such threads when I see them, because they may contain good info about future troubles for my bike, and I'm interested in the resolution, or lack thereof. There's not many, though. Folks don't seem to trade in an FJR, because the thing is a POS. There are those who want another bike in their garage (hell, I want one too), and so they get a second bike (or third, or fourteenth). There are those who switch to a different bike, because they desire something else - but there's harldy anyone leaving angry. There aren't any FJR film clips like this: Wrong Bike

Let the occasional sore-butt people make their statement. The solutions are always the same:

1. More time to adjust to bike/ proper riding position.

2. Improved seat.

3. Handlebar risers.

4. Different windscreen.

New riders and prospective FJR owners need to read stuff like that, since it's about the only complaint there is. Visitors researching the FJR, may get the idea the forum is overly moderated, from the lack of negative comments.

For the rare guy who isn't helped by the above, I want to know what his problem is. I want to read from somebody who hates his FJR, and thinks it's the worst thing ever put on two wheels. Please don't bann the SOB, or dogpile him with flames, or lock his post. Let him run wild on his 'bitch' thread. You see, reading this forum is kind of like the FJR, itself... There are so few real glitches, it's almost boring.

Due to the membership of this Forum, with the vast amount of motorcycling experience and knowledge (dare I say wisdom), almost every bitch, gripe, complaint is addressed and successfully answered or at least analzyed to a successful outcome (even if that includes options that lead elsewhere.

I'm 6'4" with a 35" inseam and a bad knee; I have comfort issues no matter what bike I'm riding. The invaluable information I've gotten from this forum has enabled me to make my FJR a more comfortable ride.
