Tonight, the Throttlemeister install

Arrived home from work today to find the Throttlemeister I bought on ebay waiting for me. Surprised myself by having the necessary allen wrenches, so I decided to install it after dinner. The factory bar end inserts pulled out nice and easy, and the left TM weight went on smoothly. The right side installation wasn't quite as smooth. The o-rings on the insert didn't want to grab the bar. I pulled it back out twice to clean the bar and o-rings,before finding a method that worked to get them to grab. Instead of trying to smoothly tighten the bolt,I found that abruptly cranking the allen wrench around finally got the insert to compress and make the o-rings grab. Had I been at work, I could have resorted to a power tool that would have either gotten the job done quicker, or broken something. So I spent close to an hour, but I'm happy with the results. Can't wait to try it out on the way to work tomorrow.

I had similar experience when I installed mine last year, but it eventually went together. I really like it, and combined with a Crampbuster it is a fantastic addition to the bike. :good:

That's an interesting combo. How do you set the TM with the Crampbuster in place?

Never had a problem with it... heel of the hand on the Crampbuster, turn the TM with the last three fingers of the left hand. Works like a charm. I can dial it in or dial it out on the move with no issues at all. :good:

I know some folks DETEST the TM, but for my AE (factory heated grips) it was the only commercial solution (I've since seen some interesting things done with a twisted coathanger, which work great and cost NOTHING, but don't necessarily look very good).

The TM worked great on the ride to work this morning. Walked out to the bike mid-morning, and found that the throttle was dragging a bit, wouldn't snap closed like last night. Apparently 110 degrees,plus the AZ sun,caused some expansion. No big deal. Quick adjustment and all is well again. Hopefully I won't experience any binding when I use the heated grips this winter.

Took a bit of tweaking for mine to get where I wanted it, but no issues now. And being up here in Canuckistan, I have occasion to use the heated grips fairly often, and never noticed them having any effect.

Only commercial solution?? What about an Audiovox Cruise Control?

You also mentioned factory heated grips, and although I'm not sure how they play into things, they are pretty easy to upgrade, too.

Guess it slipped by him. I will say that I'm one of those "mutants" that can easily engage the TM with my right hand without varying the throttle postion. I haven't quite mastered the disengagement without varying the throttle, but I'm getting there. BTW, just broke 1,000 miles on the way home from work tonight! I'm officially broken in. :clapping: :yahoo:

Mike, The Mayor of Skootsdale was a busy boy yesterday and it did slip by him; he called me at 8 last night after putting new tires on His Dirty Old Whore; he even put a new front Pilot Road 2 on my FJR for me and installed FZ1 mirrors on my FJR: Miss Lucy Liu. Sometimes that twerp is good to have around! He is all in a lather about the upcoming IBR Rally soon.

I am a big fan of Throttlemeister and all of my bikes have them except for my Harley-Davidson Dyna Super Glide; H-D's come from the factory with a throttle set screw already mounted. Smitty installed an Audio Vox Cruise Control on Lucy over at Richard Fairlaner's house in Torrance and I really love that. Thanks again Smitty! But my Throttlemeister is still mounted on the handlebars of my FJR. I also have no trouble engaging the Throttlemeister; only girlie men cannot work it!!!

I hate to say that I agree with Mr Skooter but the Throttlemiester didn't work for me. Took it off and sold it. Vista Cruise is more better IMHO.

Thought about the Vista Cruise,but really don't like the way it looks. At least a little form has to follow the function. Though not for some people, I guess. I'm not mentioning any names, but I've seen pics on this forum that make me wonder why they bothered buying a beautiful bike like the FJR.

I have never had this thing off the bike and am gonna be taking a LONG trip out west soon and getting this to work just a bit better would be great!

Go to the throttlemeister website and get the directions.

Remove the TM from your bike and reinstall it per the directions. It just needs to be pushed in a little further.

I had a TM on a ZX-11 once and thought it worked great. It has been a long time but seems like it can be adjusted with different thickness washers that they provide. They just gave me what I needed once at their booth at Daytona one year. I'll probably get one for the FJR.
