Ok I lowered my 08 with links that brought it down 7/8 of inch. Now I cant get my bags back on  Has this happened to anyone else or is it me and I just can't get m bags on???

How far did the bike get torn down for the links? Nothing the bags touch should have moved relative to the actual bike frame, so without pics of what's out of line, I can't even hazard a guess.

I helped a local owner put Kouba Links on his FJR. No problems with using the side cases. As wfooshee said, lowering the bike doesn't affect the mounting points for the side cases.

Ditto.

I have Kouba 1" LL's on my FeeJ. Though I didn't do the install, I do have sidecases on and see no reason why the install of links would have an effect on the side case fitment.

I have been wanting to lower my bike but does this throw off the bikes dynamics etc.?

The steering will be slightly slower unless you slide the fork tubes up but that also lessens ground clearance.

You will not be able to lean the bike as far as before. For most of us that isn't an issue because we don't ride at 7/10 to 9/10 on the street.

For normal riding, touring and canyon carving, my guess is that 80% of riders won't notice "evil" effects but will enjoy being more stability at intersections and stops.

Maybe I'm just retarded..This is the first time I have had the bags off..Went to put them back on and they just won't go on!! Is there a special technique?? Very frustrating for something so simple. :angry2:

sort of...

Hold the bag up next to the bike, and tilt/angle it to catch the lower rubber bumper into the edge of the large slot in the front lower corner of the bag first, then wiggle the bag over the two upper slots in the bike frame. Then you can fully seat the bag down and forward.

Of course the bag's handle must be fully open to retract the catch mechanism too.

As the ultimate last resort, the final thing you do before selling the bike because of this, after having exhausted all other avenues, see what the owners manual says... :)

My first time putting the bags back on this is what caught me. That has to be in place before the other three points.

 Thanks for the tips. I'll try this tonight.

Just wondering if you got the bags back on?

Also wondering how you like the lowering links? I was thinking about getting some myself...

I used the Kouba Links (7/8")to lower my 09 in addition to slipping the forks (1/2". One of the best farkles for me, makes the bike so much more comfortable at slo-mo and stops and no major handleing issues, just need to be careful with speed bumps while two-up. :)

Hi

Yes I finally got the bags on :) It was all operator error. Got home look at it a little closer and bamm there on..So lowering links does not affect the mounting of the stock bags in any way :yahoo:

I love the lowering links. They make me feel a lot more comfortable and safe.i.e: not tippy toing..I'm 5'9" 30" inseam. If I had to do it over(i just might) I would go with 1.5" instead on 7/8" drop. I don't know if they make a 1.5" drop but they should.. I would try the adjustable links that are out there. they can be adjusted more and on the Fly. The reason I hesitated with the adjustable one is that I was afraid I would set them up unevenly  But I just might try them anyway. Having a thick sole boot also helps. Also make sure your seat is in it's lowest position. I remove that plastic "thing"(adjuster)

I've lowered my '07 FJR with the 7/8" links and sliding the front forks up 1/2". I love it. But I wouldn't go much further with lowering links. I got closer to the ground my reworking the seat pan. Got me another 3/4" I have a .pdf of the modification to the seat pan if you want.
