Even though in Alief, I have dealt with HoustonYamaha and had very good luck with them. Put it on Forum if you plan the ride on 17th. I keep the FJR up at Onalaska, (between Huntsville and Livingston), but ride to the south during winter! :-)
NEAT! Now get one of the motorcycle roll around dollies like Harbor Freight sells for less than $100 and it will make it real easy to parallel park the FJR.
Take care and/or have fun!
I've had just the opposite experience. Been riding bikes for over 30 years here in Texas and never had an inspector even start or much less ride the bike.
I have to agree with some of the others about not getting an FJR for your first bike. I have been riding for over 30 years on everything from a 125 Yamaha up to Harleys, and still prefer to ride a seemingly smaller-sized bike (V-Max or Sportster 1200) for short range travel and only ride the...
Get bike on center stand (have fun!) Put a 1x6 spreader under front of engine and take some of weight off the front end. Loosen allen bolts and drop triple tree an even amount on both sides before retightening bolts. I stayed with 1/2 inch drop on front and have noticed no change in handling...
10-4 on the Romax. I did exactly the same thing running over the heat shield and back to where the tool bag sits. Also added 20 amp fuse at the battery connection "just in case".
Better check the fuse size on your Battery Tender. I bought one that had only a 3-amp fuse which probably wouldn't be enough. I changed mine to a 10 amp and just used a spare Battery Tender plug to plug the compressor, etc. in to the Battery Tender leads. Make sure you check polarity though.
I'll be watching for your notice of when they are ready for release/sale. I really agree that sliders just don't cut it, especially for the rear. I have to come up to Dallas area next month anyhow, and maybe can pick them up if you have them ready by then.
It took my Corbin about 500 miles before it "set" to my seat. It is firm, but does seem to mold to fit you after using. Try parking in the sun for a few hours before you get on. Of course, this may cause severe heat rash and burns to the nether parts of your body.
My wife is about the same physical size as yours and had the same problem with a Honda 350. She tried various other bikes, but was not happy with them. She quit riding for many years and only started back when I lowered my Sporster 1200 2 inches. She now rides a Suzuki VS800 Intruder and...
My '07's front tire does the same thing. I took it to dealer who demounted and cleaned wheel and tire beads while I watched. They aired tire to 65 pounds and checked with 1/2 drum of water set out on out on parking lot in sun with no visible bubbles. A month later, tire was 10 pounds low...
