    Remembering the Britten...

For those of you in the West, there is a V1000 at the Vintage Motorcycle museum in Solvang. https://www.motosolvang.com/bike_pages/1995_Briiten_V1000.htm Well worth a stop when riding through on Hwy 1/101

    Gear oil

I think what he meant is if a lube prevents failure in trouble prone BMW drives, it will work perfectly fine in an FJR. I had a BMW drive fail on a K bike I had, dealer replaced under warranty, and recommended the Redline shockproof heavy. New drive went 50,000+ miles with no further issues...

    Supertech filters no mo

Nissan VQ35 engine. One of Ward's 10 best engines ever. And yes, it uses the same filter as the FJR which is convenient. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_VQ_engine

    Supertech filters no mo

Glad I bought all the 7317 they had a few months back. Still have 8 on the bench but they go on the FJR, the FZ1, and the Infiniti so will burn through them pretty quick. The regular Purolators they have now are good, just $1 more and white :(

Ethanol versus regular gas fuel mileage test

Air quality has only improved when measuring what the EPA mandates (HC/CO/NOX). What is not measured is the significant increase in aldehyde (formaldehyde and acetaldehyde) concentrations from burning ethanol. Both known carcinogens. E10 has not decreased the amount of imported crude either...

    Mt. Baker Road Report

My friend and I had a nice ride up there last weekend as well. Decided to take the FZ1 for its maiden voyage up there though. The Feej has seen Shuksan many times.

    Yamaha Super Tenere 1200

6-7 months from order date is standard for the pre-order. That is what they quoted me way back in 2004 on my FJR. I was lucky in that I got mine in 6 weeks due to a cancellation. So always worth a call to your sales person to let them know to call ASAP if anyone declines delivery of their...

    Yamaha Super Tenere 1200

Yeah, I looked at the Versys but I can't understand Kawi's marketing strategy. I mean that bike is almost identical to the ER-6N except for a bit more suspension travel and .9 gallons more fuel capacity. But the ER-6N is $1000 less at $6699 MSRP. So you could probably get the thing for $6000...

    Yamaha Super Tenere 1200

Thanks for the feedback. I have ridden a friends KLR and that single thumper was pretty vibey for me, so not really an option as I have arthritis in my hands and the vibes contribute to the problems. I had the same issue with an F650 I rented on Oahu a few years back. My hands were numb for...

    Yamaha Super Tenere 1200

Tenere looks a great machine in the same vein as the legendary Transalp/Africa Twin, but sadly just too big and heavy for me. At 5'-8", any lengthy off-road use would be a bit much for me to handle in a 600 pound bike. So looks like a Wee-Strom ABS is going to fit the bill as it is...

The bloom is off the rose

I totally agree. I have a KLR650 and at times it is too much for the woods (at least for me). The Tenere would be great for touring and an occational dirt road. I wouldn't try anymore then that. I don't feel like dropping a $15,000.00 motorcycle. Yeah, for my Dual-Sport money I would pick...

The bloom is off the rose

Agreed the Tenere is comfortable and well thought out. But it is a big machine at almost 600 pounds and that will always be an issue in the dirt. Always comical when guys take big GS1200 and the like into the wilderness and wonder why they are so beat to hell and not having any fun. If the...

The bloom is off the rose

Tis true the adventure bike market is where it's at right now, but ST is still a serious niche. I think Yamaha is playing it just right keeping the FJR a bit "behind the curve" with gadgetry/technical advancements compared to the usual rivals. I for one still prefer my Gen 1 FJR over...

    Whats it worth?

You would be better off selling the truck vs. pouring further money into a depreciating asset. Interest rates are so low (0% in many cases), just trade in for a new truck. If new is not an option, there are plenty of clean used trucks out there. But keep the FJR as you'll be sorry later that...

Who has had their FJR Dyno'd??

Quite a few have. Bone stock and depending on dyno and conditions, most bikes are about 120-125 SAE. Were you just running for #'s or trying to tune for PCIII etc?
