Is there any way to activate the clutch w/o shifting on an FJR1300AE?

Here's the neat thing about my suggestion... all the left-hand lever would do is to control a switch (just as the right-hand lever controls the brake-light switch). If you pull the lever, the switch is turned on and the clutch disengages via YCC-S. When you release the lever, the clutch engages...

Is there any way to activate the clutch w/o shifting on an FJR1300AE?

So the answer is No... you can't manually disengage the clutch. Why would I want to? Zipping from 50 to 90 by the time I pass a car in 4th, then it would be nice to be able to coast back to 70 or so before re-engaging in 5th. I like my AE, but think the Honda DCT system as found on the VFR1200...

Is there any way to activate the clutch w/o shifting on an FJR1300AE?

I have an '09 AE that I really like, but it would be nice to be able to put the bike in neutral and coast for a bit, e.g., after passing and building up considerable speed. Any way to 'depress' the clutch without shifting?

    Recognize your dealer

I bought my 09 FJR1300AE from Adventure Motorsports in Monroe, WA as a new-old stock bike back in 2013, for just over $11K. It was the best deal I could find. I've been back a couple of times, for my 600 mile service and my 4000 mile service and new tires. They were competitive on service fees...

FJR again - this time AE

I'm waiting for Yamaha to bring the AS model to the US. When they do, I'll sell my '09 AE and pick up a GenIII.

LED Replacement Lamps for Tail, Brake and Turn Signals

I've ordered a Signal Dynamics AYN rear brake flasher/license frame and their headlight modulator. I was impressed with another biker's install, that I encountered on a trip... his AYN really caught my eye, and I hope it will reduce the odds of being struck from the rear at a stop. Similarly, I...

Firstgear Laguna GPS Tank Bag with Backpack

I have a Rapid Transit Recon 19 tank bag. I made two modifications... took a soldering iron and burned a hole just above the right front corner, from the inside to the rain cover compartment and then through to the front, and then put another hole at the back of the cell phone pouch. I run a...

In Search Of: The Perfect Windscreen

I installed a CalSci medium windscreen on my '09 AE and rode from Seattle to Whistler BC last weekend (and will ride back this weekend). The CalSci is a significant improvement over the factory screen; at freeway speeds I can put it up high enough to eliminate wind/turbulence on my helmet yet...

    Tires for unpaved roads

I think going to the Darkside for gravel roads would be akin to Russian Roulette. There's a reason car tires are made the way they are, and motorcycle tires are made the way they are. I can imagine how it would feel to ride my 635 lb beast on a car tire, in a curve, on a gravel road, and feel...

    Seat Advice

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but not to their own facts, because facts are facts. Rick Mayer seats are made similarly to the process/description you provided for Bill Mayer seats, although I'm sure the details differ. The Russell design was one way to solve a problem, but using...

    Backfiremoto Wed April 15 4:00 pm 2015

I've never been, but am thinking of stopping by. Might leave the FJR at home and drive my DN-01... kinda fits into the weird bike theme.

AE vs Standard Clutch Pro and Con

I don't see how that can be true. The only difference with the bike is on the left handgrip. Any friction-type throttle lock works just as on the standard FJR; any electric cruise control also works similarly.

    Lowering options

Curious about the folks who have lowered their FJRs. I'm not the tallest person in the world (5'6", 30" inseam or maybe a little less), but I'm okay with the current bike height. I have my saddle on the low setting, and don't have a problem touching both feet. I am on the balls of my feet (not...

    Isn't this sad...

I can empathize... rode from Seattle to San Jose and back a month ago, and my a$$ was killing me on the way down. I had to stop every hour to 90 minutes, and would spend each night soaking in a tub. My butt was bruised, literally, from the seat. I spent a week in San Jose on business, riding the...

AE vs Standard Clutch Pro and Con

I have an '09 AE, and would buy another AE over the manual clutch. I've had my bike for a year now (NOS, in the crate when I bought it last summer). I've just hit the 4k mark, after my first long trip on the bike from Seattle to San Jose and back via the scenic route. The only thing it needs is...
