I doubt that there is really that much difference. My exwife used to bitch at me for ignoring here while i was driving. I would bitch back (part of the reason we are exxes now), "I'm driving. I can't drive and also pay attention to you." I think the fact is that there would be almost zero...

Airplane on Conveyor Belt Mythbusters 12/12

While I completely understand most of this post and fully understand that a plane capable of flying at 30 knots can fly "backwards" relative to the ground in a 40 knot headwind, this statement baffles me: How are you going to fly with no power? Your power might consist of a cable holding you...

Airplane on Conveyor Belt Mythbusters 12/12

The thrust, whether its created by a jet or a prop or a rocket, acts against the air, not the ground (or treadmill). As said several times, ignoring the possible effect of friction from the wheels being forced to spin so fast, the treadmill has no effect on the plane's forward movement. And...

Do people ask you what your bike is??

Wow. I spent the night in Syracuse once on my way to Colorado. Just couldn't go any further that day. The motel was a real dump but there was a good diner next door. A bunch of locals were there eating very fresh steaks, so I had one too. It was a good slabomeat. Nobody asked my about the feej...

    Topbox Owners - Usage?

75%. Use it extensively during day in day out commuting duty and errand running. Sometimes take it off for a spirited day ride in the mountains.

    Business Trips and Airport Parking

I don't know about other airports but at ATL they survey the parking lots and record EVERY license plate every 24 hours. There are security people patrolling the lots all the time. I'd say its by far the safest public parking around.

Nut holding brake on front fork falls off

The service manual does not specify a thread locker on the caliper bolts. However, all race orgs that I know of require them to be safety wired so its obviously not unheard of for them to vibrate out. On the other hand, I put blue loktite on mine when I put them in. It won't hurt them.

Interest in a private shop in West GA

If you do things right and stand behind it, you'll do well. I know lots of folks that live in that area and ride a lot. Absolutely go for it and your plan of gradually moving from your job to self employed is good. It'll mean some long days but the end result will be worth it. I don't know about...

    Sudden (ish) oil usage..

That is correct. That is incorrect. Don't post facts that you don't know to be true. Read the owner's manual.

    Sudden (ish) oil usage..

How big a can was it? If you change the filter, the FJR takes 4 liters, 3.8 if you don't. I run the engine for a few minutes then check the oil in the normal way after a change and, when using the specified amount, it always ends up more or less in the middle of the sight glass. A sudden...

    Oil Change Jitters

I have a service manual and one thing is clear. There is no direct connection between the engine or any sensor on the engine and the tachometer so the signal to drive it is coming from the ECU which appears to get engine speed data from a crankshaft position sensor. There are three harnesses...

Driving lights that draw only 1 Watt!

Some lighting facts from Philips spec sheets (not necessarily automotive): Halogen - 500 watts, 3500-5000 lumens LED - 75 watts, 2500 lumens LED's produce signifcantly more light per watt. However, the fixture that I got the LED data from has a massive heat sink attached (its intended for...

Front Tires and front end decel shake

I have a question for all you shakers. Do you use a lot of engine braking when you ride? I've had BT020s (briefly) Z6's, (till they wore out) and now BT021s and have never had any shaking. But I don't use hard engine braking and virtually never the rear brake in the twisties and wonder if the...
