The Secret SV-650/1000 Suzuki Owners Society

Back in early 2007 I purchased a Progressive Suspension 420-1041 shock from a fellow who used it on his '01 SV650 race bike for a while then switched to an Ohlins. I bought the adjustment tool to go with it too. Unfortunately for me the shock was made for the first gen SV's and won't fit my '04...

    GPS Lifespan?

It was part of a custom route. I had a different one for each day of a 7 day tour. Like you said, I should have magnified the chosen route more in mapquest and I would have picked this up but I didn't and I missed it. I'm a newbie with the Zumo and it's a bit of a learning curve. These are great...

    GPS Lifespan?

My Zummo 550 decided to send me down a "shortcut" between twisty mountain roads on my recent trip through WV / NC last week. The road started out looking like someone's poorly paved narrow driveway and got progressively worse. It turned into a pot holed dirt road and then a washed out "stream...

    Final Drive Oil

LOL...I was hoping it wouldn't come to this. Answer received, message clear. 10-4 and out!

    Final Drive Oil

I see that in the FAQ Bin-O-Facts the forum recommends Mobil 1 or Penzoil synthetic oil for the final drive (as well as Yamaha's own brand). The closest I can get in my area is Amsoil 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube. Anyone see any problems using this in the FJR final drive? Might be a dumb question...

    FJR muffler on a SV650?

Aftermarket system with power commander is the way to go on the SV650 but it's a tad pricey. Hat's off to your creativeness (read thriftiness). You must have some scottish blood in you laddie. ;)

    That V-Twin sound

I had my SV650 before my FJR. Can't seem to part with it. It's an '04 with lots of mods including a full Yoshumira stainless racing exhaust with power comander plus cartridge emulators in the forks. It is one sweet little bike. I keep it for one 10 day long ride through West Virginia and North...

    First tank scratch poem

Just got back from a tour of Cape Cod, Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard and received my first tank scratch on the trip. I thought I'd commemorate it with a little poem... Ahem... I once scratched my tank on Nantucket. It could've ruined my day but I thought "fuck it". I said with a grin, as...

    Garmin Zumo 550 tips needed

I've got a last minute situation. I'm leaving on a week long trip in two days and have a new Zumo 550 which I haven't had much of a chance to figure out yet. I know these things are great for telling you how to get somewhere but how do you tell it which route YOU want to take? I'm traveling...

    More than one bike?

They jokingly call the SV650 the "halfabusa". It's half an FJR as well. 650cc compared to 1300, 75hp compared to 145hp and 350lbs compared to the 700lbs or so the FJR is. About half the price too. But it's 100% as fun to ride :yahoo: Can't see parting with either any time soon.

    More than one bike?

I stiffened the springs and put emulators on my SV as well as a full Yoshumira race exhaust and many other goodies. It's like a roaring little hot rod now. The SV is like a little jackrabbit and the FJR is like an intercontinental ballistic missile.

    More than one bike?

A lot of folks here seem to own more than one bike. I have an '04 Suzuki SV650 nekid (not at all stock) and an '06 FJR (pretty much stock so far) I had an '03 SV650S but that's another story  I rode the SV for over 3 years before I bought the FJR. I used to take the SV everywhere...

08 FJR R&R Clutch Plate Soak

My '06 had the dreaded clunking shift affliction too. Hard from neutral into first and from first into second. May have done the same into all gears but the wind and engine noise was louder than the shifting after this point. Took the clutch apart, did the soak with some nice Mobil 1 and put it...

Why You should Check your Tires

I just had my OEM BT020's removed and PR2's installed. The dealer had warned me earlier that they were worn out (because they were down to/past the wear bars) but I figured I had some life left in them yet and I'd be good for a while as long as I avoided the rain. But, like was mentioned...

Ram ball mount for clutch assy. thread hole

Recently got a Zumo 550 and I'm not all that fussy about the mounting hardware it comes with for the FJR clutch bracket. There is a threaded hole on top of said bracket that comes with a plastic cap installed in it. I imagine it's used for a rear view mirror on some other Yamaha model. Is there...
