I see that in the FAQ Bin-O-Facts the forum recommends Mobil 1 or Penzoil synthetic oil for the final drive (as well as Yamaha's own brand). The closest I can get in my area is Amsoil 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube. Anyone see any problems using this in the FJR final drive? Might be a dumb question but I'd rather ask a dim witted question here and bear the wrath of the forum members than put something in my bike that should not ought to be put in. :dntknw:

BTW...the previous owner says he put "synthetic lube" in it the last change out at 10,000 km (12,000 km ago) and it looked pretty darkish when I drained it out. The Amsoil looks light and clear in the bottle.

Any good quality synth gear lube will be fine, 75W-90 is the correct spec - so I don't see why you can't use the Amsoil one. I've used the BelRay & Motul synth gear lubes for a long time.

Mine comes out pretty decent looking after the recommended 16k miles.
