    Darkside or not to Darkside.

20 or 30K on my '05 with a car tire. It ain't perfect, but it addressed the issue of eating tire when riding 2 up pulling a camper. I would not suggest the CT for everyone, but it works for the issue I needed to address. NO, I don't want to discuss the evils of pulling trailer with a...

Price premium for a ready-to-go battery?

There are not a lot of batteries that come in new bikes that are already 'sealed'. Yamaha in the FJR and 250 motard and Can-am in the Spyders. Most other 'sealed' batteries in new bikes come in dry. They are filled with acid, charged, and then the 'sealed' caps installed. I suspect that...

What's the Weather like where YOU are today?

In the land of blue skies and balmy winters know as Charlotte, NC, we are supposed to drop to 8 degress tonight and then high of 26 tomorrow. If this keeps up I'll have to move further south. I feel for you guys up in the really cold part of the country. At least we don't usually get the...

    B.R.P. or something

The foliage on the BRP may be getting thin at this point. We were on the BRP 2 weekends back and the colors were good. The lower elevations are full color (I am in Charlotte).

    1960 BMW R60 /2 - She Runs after 19 years

Great old Beemer. One of my cronies bought a ( '62 I think ) R50 at the factory in Germany, rode that puppy for over 300k. Only sold it when his vision got so bad he couldn't read the speedo and was no longer able get his leg over the seat. He converted his to a 12 volts system so he could...

Do I really have to "check and adjust valve clearance" at 27,000 miles?

Scheduled maintenance is like birth control; use it or you may suffer the consequences of your lack of effort. Personally I don't want no wining babies nor engine issues. Like someone said, if you roll the dice, be prepared to loose. Checked my 05 at 27500 with no adjustment needed, but will...

    Can Am RT

The 2013 Spyders (RT and ST) have a 'NO RIDE' recall as a result of the one or two that caught fire. If a dealer checks one in for service/maintenance, he is not supposed to turn it loose until the fire recall has been completed. The head pipe for the rear cylinder is about 3 inches from the...

    Plagiarised from another website..............................

What really scares me is that I understood most of these on first read; but I can't remember why I put down my tools, washed the grease off my hands, and went upstairs!

    Anti-sieze on brake caliper bolts?

If you thread steel bolts into aluminum, you best use anti-seize on the bolts. The cheap bolts seem to do OK, the expensive aluminum they thread into usually suffers the damage.

Lowered Passenger peg heat shields -ideas?

I have a set of shields on my '05. They are 6-8 inches long and clamp around the exhaust. I think they were from Drag Specialties. Drop in your favorite shop and have them look in the Turner Rocky catalog.

Look for thoughts & comments on bent shifting fork

If any part is questionable, I'd replace it while the engine is apart. Better to replace a part that might be and issue than to have to redo the job later.

The Irish May Have Whiskey, But We Norwegians Got Wood

A couple that lives on our cul-de-sac are from Norway. Both are well into retirement age. I asked Pierco (the husband) if they had ever discussed moving back to Norway. Pierco, who usually has a rather dry sense of humor, replied, "Hell no, it too damn cold". I think this is on the only time...
