    How would Yamaha do it?

Interesting post! I don't believe 100 lbs is even realistic. More like 50 ~ 60 lbs. As stated in a prior post - dump the drive shaft. Win win! This would accomplish a twofold objective: substantial weight saving and increase available engine power/torque through a more efficient drive...

    Cornering confidence

Alexi, I think you got a bunch of good info/advise here on this thread. Bottom line: Hey, ya have the FJR now. Take the time (not much, especially if your tires are OK) to set up yer suspension and tires/pressure. Then, give it a fair shake out...minimal time and cost investment required...

    OEM Bridgestone tire wear

Hey Guys! I see I got some reaction to my post claiming 14,000 mi on an OE set of 020 Stones! The miles are actually 'bout 13,700. The front tire cupped pretty badly by about 7,000 miles. I had been airing at 36 lbs and have since upped that pressure to 40, both f/r. Utilizing Haulin' Ash's...

    Cornering confidence

Hey Alexi! I owned an 1800 GW prior to my '05 FJR. I will say that the GW for the behemoth it is at 900 lbs does handle amazingly well. But it is no FJR in the twistys! I did find that the FJR is highly affected by tire design, tire air pressure and suspension set up. The GW does have a lower...

    OEM Bridgestone tire wear

Hey Jim! Best I can tell ya is by my personal experience. I bought a new '05, received Oct 2004. The bike came with 020 Stones as OE. I would categorize my riding style the same as you have. I currently have just short of 14,000 mi on them. They are down to the wear bars at this time, with a...

    Rust In Gas Tank

Regarding the slight rust in the tank, and considering the tank will be stored for some time (couple years?) A friend suggested I rinse out the tank with a 50/50 solution of muriatic acid, rinse w/clean water, dry, then dump in a qt of motor oil, slosh around, then seal it up. Sounds like...

Cleaning the inside of a helmet

Don't remember where I got the idea, but something I've been doing for years is to stuff the helmet with yesterday's newspaper. Do this between uses. The helmet will not be perfumy smelling but will be fresh when ya pull it on for your next ride. Too cheap not to try hey? You'll be pleasantly...

Is there a cure for tire cupping?

Original 'Stone 020 tires. 13,700 miles, At wear bars now. 40 lbs psi f/r. These tires have been cupped since 3500 mi. Yes, they howl whenever turning-doesn't bother me. I'd say just ride 'em 'till you're going to replace 'em. FWIW - my .02 cents

    Rust In Gas Tank

Hey Guys! Long story short...I have a '81 Moto Guzzi gas tank just recently drained. Gas smelled OK, but on a close inspection, I see a fine rust colored film has developed in the tank. :angry2: I want to store the tank for a later project. It will be stored in an unheated garage. A...
