    FJRF008: Cam Chain Tensioner Survey

A – the model year of your FJR: 2005 B – the number of miles on your FJR when the cam chain noise became apparent: ~34K C – what action did you take, i.e., replace the CCT yourself, have the dealer do the work, ignore the noise, etc., and at what mileage: Dealer replaced under Y.E.S. at 38K...

Four valves at low end of clearance spec. Button her up or adjust?

Does the CCT extend only so far and stop, or does the spring, rod, and whatever else eject? I checked in the shop manual and it looks like it will all hold together. So, I may loosen the intake cam, wind back the tensioner and hold it, lift out the intake cam just enough to access the lifters...

Four valves at low end of clearance spec. Button her up or adjust?

I have the chain zip tied to guides and the cam and crank sprockets. The CCT won't lock in a retracted position however. I can wind it up until it stops and the the chain slackened but won't lock even with a good twist. Is there something special I'm missing? Twist harder? The CCT was replaced...

Four valves at low end of clearance spec. Button her up or adjust?

It's definitely tight in the FJR to perform valve clearance work but certainly doable without pulling the motor and made more so by experiences shared by others. I've decided to adjust those valves at the bottom of the spec. I got a good start last night and loosened the CCT cap nut (those...

Four valves at low end of clearance spec. Button her up or adjust?

I've performed the second valve clearance check on my 05 with 54kmi on the clock. Six valves have tightened (5 exhaust & 1 intake) since the first check at 28k which required no adjustment. Two exhaust valves are now at the bottom end of spec (.18mm) and one intake (.15mm) so two intakes are now...

    Need 12,000 mile service done

+1 on doing it yourself should you have the tools, a proper place to perform the work, and some mechanical inclination. Apart from checking/adjusting the valves, most maintenance on the bike is not difficult. I was first intimidated by the FJR's complexity and initially thought that most work...

    My quiet FJR

+1 on the FJR's stealthyliciousness. I don't ride to audibly announce my freedom plus the noise is fatiguing on long rides. My exhaust is and will remain stock. I'm in complete favor of increased enforcement of existing noise legislation and any new legislation. I recently moved and there's a...

    gauge reflection

How 'bout contact paper? I've seen both clear and opaque varieties. If not too opaque, it may knock out the reflection without significantly distorting the gauges. The clear stuff could perhaps be lightly sanded with fine sandpaper to achieve the desired level of anti-reflection.

    Cox Radiator Guard

I had the same challenge on my 05. I did mange to finagle one of two zip ties on, but could not tighten it completely - it's more of a "keeper" in case the bottom bolt falls out which I also don't see happening. I ultimately came to the conclusion it was fine as is. I've had no trouble in the 2...

    26K Valve check

I checked the valve clearance for the first time on my 05 with 28k over the weekend. I did it awl by mythelf teacher. Torch's write up was of IMENSE help (thank you, thank you, thank you) and I read it, and the procedure in the service manual, several times earlier to get a sense for the job. I...

    Pumpkining my '05

I'm curious as to from exactly where the FJR's speedo get its input (I know, RTFM). After washing my 05 ABS, I've sometimes "spun dried" the rear wheel by spinning it up a little on the center stand (never above 5th gear  ) and noticed that the speedo operates so it's definitely not...

    Pumpkining my '05

Since the speedometer's input is from the engine/transmission instead of from the front wheel, might the speedo be thrown off by ~9% from the different ratio?

    145mph with passenger yesterday

feejer222, I meant this facetiously. No offense was intended. Oh, I've never broken the speed limit, today. (That wasn't me on California's I5 yesterday doin' 100 for a stretch)

    Alice's for the 07 party !!

Someone left a flip-top windshield on my 05 at the Alice's event. Thank you! One can never have enough of those (my 3+4 Cee Baily's is nice but not without some buffeting when extended). I was debating how to best transport it home when the gentleman I was conversing with, Ray - a currently...

    Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding

OOOO! This is so good to know as I'm very soon going to obtain a Mity Vac to replace my antiquated hose and jar setup and bleed all the hydraulic circuits on my 05. I'm sure I would have also been fooled by air sneaking past the threads eventually becoming violently distraught over the matter...

    Givi V46 Latch

I wonder if the case might be distorted. If I stuff too much in mine unevenly, say a jacket above my usual stuff causing the case to slightly distort, the latch sometimes doesn't stay latched until I rearrange things more evenly. When closed but not latched, is the gap between the two case...

Max loading for GIVI top boxes

I carried a ~40lb car battery in my v46 for 10 miles. Box and battery were still there when I got home. Made wheelies even easier. :o
