    3rd Gen Windshield Tuning

I used to ride sans windshield back in the day; Thailand, Michigan, Texas, and SoCal, but the first time I rode with a windshield I couldn't believe what an improved ride it was, especially in adverse conditions. I do get a bit of buffeting with my Gen II screen all the way up and have been...

2003 - Rear caliper cracked (UK)

A skilled fabricator could repair that caliper by draining and degreasing it, drilling I/8" holes at the ends of the crack, running a Dremel along the crack to create a groove, then brazing it up with brass brazing rod. After it air cools, run a tap through any threaded holes to clean them out.

    Tire inflator connector for chuck

I've bought several tire pressure gauge/inflator things, and not one of them is quick, accurate, and easy to use, especially gauges. The round face with stub, or with a hose and fitting, the pencil type, the angle digital type, none of them work easily and well.

    Bike care near the beach?

I live in SoCal, and ride the Pacific Coast Highway all the time. I didn't see any mention of it, but keep an eye on the lower forks. The salt air will pit them in a hurry. I bought a bike once in Corona, about sixty miles inland from the coast, and there wasn't a spot on the forks. Within...

    Latest MCN review

I was most interested in the transmission portion; I recently changed the oil in my '06, and went back to dead dinos. The PO said it had full-syn in it. The transmission seemed to love it, while the whole bike is smoother and quieter. My other bike, a '94 Honda 750 Nighthawk, was having shifting...

    IMS show - pathetic

I and some friends were at the Long Beach show yesterday. This is one of the biggest shows in the country with great weather (sunny high 70s) and many distributors being based nearby. We went in about 11:30, and they closed the show with two of us still in the hall. Triumph's effort was small...

    A minor "wouldn't start" discovery

I've noticed it's possible on my '06 to turn the key off, the engine dies, but the panel stays lit and it takes another hit to get the panel lights to go out, then I tried pushing the key in and turning it off. Bingo!

    I'm torn between

Sold the Kawi yesterday, got pretty close to my price (the latest price drop, anyway). Going to keep the '06 FJR for a while longer. Anyone in SoCal going to the Bike Show in Long Beach this weekend? I'm going on Sunday.

2006 FJR For Sale - One Owner

I feel your pain. I'm dreading the day I have to look myself in the mirror and realize I can no longer ride. I'm fighting it with diet and exercise.

Power Commander Tuning Centers in SoCal

From what I can gather and what I'm leaning toward is if you're box stock, as I am, all you need is the "smoothness" map, which Dynojet provides installed and shipped.

Looking for ideas on helmet storage

I have a three-foot length of stainless aircraft cable that will lock my helmet and my jacket (run the cable up a sleeve) to the bike. Stops the opportunistic thief or teenager from lifting them, but a pro will have tools, that's why I sometimes just carry the helmet and jacket into wherever I'm...

    I'm torn between

I've bought and sold some bikes, cars, and boats. Like the song says, sometimes you're the bug, sometimes you're the windshield but as the years go by, I've found that time can be more important than saving a relatively few bucks. I could have driven some harder deals on some things, but the...

    I'm torn between

I picked up the Kawi at the shop where "oil leak" was being fixed. It was a timing sight glass O-ring that was weeping, had collected inside the beauty cover, then spilled out. They replaced the ring, declared it fixed, and I will check the garage floor after work today. The sales guy at the...

Of V-Twins, open pipes and tire smoke

Is it any wonder that those with obnoxiously loud pipes pretty much all have a DILLIGAF patch?

Thanks to all for the replies and the insights. I'm thinking of the smoothie mods.

Of V-Twins, open pipes and tire smoke

Sitting on the deck of my favorite beach-side café/coffee destination in Huntington Beach, CA on Saturday last, I and a riding bud were discussing what we always discuss, the bikes and pretty girls going by. We could hear them coming blocks away, like a thundering herd, open pipes rapping and...

    I'm torn between

Thanks to all for the advice. I especially like the vindictive streak of 'Zilla and Hud - Don't Get Mad, Get Even. There's plenty of bikes out there.
