July 14th seven of us left from Derry, NH for the 2007 CST. Day 1 was a long haul up through Maine to Fort Kent to get positoned for what was to come. About 350 miles that day. At least these were new roads for me so it made it fun.
Took a break in the wilderness section of Aroostook County where the mooose out number the local population. Luckily no sightings. Spirited ride north. The ST3 tipped over at a stop near the end of the day. Bruce tried to save it and grabbed the mirror which came off! LEO turned back to talk to us. Cited some of the speeds, said he was a rider himself and wasn't gonna write us but to take it easy. Dave asked what he rode. He said a Gixxer 1000. They both laughed.
Dinner in Fort Kent with many attractive waitresses.
The next day we headed for The Gaspe Peninsula. Rain in the am. Stopped for 30 minutes at boarder by a gorgeous border guard. No one complained. Good pace all day. ST3 discovered he needed a tire. Great lunch at La Homard
Gas stop along the Gaspe.
Couple hours spent in the Forillon National park at the tip of the Gaspe. Beautiful.
Then on to Gaspe so the ST3 could get a tire. Stopped in Perce for photos.
The ST3 got a tire from this Yamaha dealer.
About 50 miles before leaving the Gaspe for New Brunswick...and after some VERY spirited riding, we came into Maria to be greeted by 4 cruisers and a road block. Directed into parking lot expecting the worst until I saw a Vespa and a Harley had been stopped too. Routine 'paper work' check staffed by 3 stunning female Canadian Mounties. (...nah...gonna leave it to you to wander around with that thought for a while)
Day 4 - Bathurst to Port Hood, Cape Breton. On the way to Pictou.
Gas stop along the way.
Lunch in Pictou. Lovely waitress....
Arrived at Port Hood and stayed at a B&B.
The next day under sunny and cool skies we headed north up the west coast of The Cabot trail.
Lunch stop at a local fish shack on the road to Meat Cove.
The local harbor had beautiful views.
From Cape Breton we headed to Peggy's Cove. We took a very short ferry ride coming down the east side of the Cabot Trail.
Another short ferry crossing in Isaacs Harbour.
Spent the night in Peggy's Cove. The next day the guy with the Multistada and I rode out Atlantic Motorsports Park
and took a few hot laps. The place was wide open. You just needed to sign a waiver at the tech shed. Not like the tracks down in the states. Very bumpy, narrow and not much run-off in places.
Ended the trip by taking The Cat from Yarmouth back to Portland, Maine.
2800 miles in 8 days. The FJR performed flawlessly. No monkey butt and stayed dry in the rain. The perfect machine for this trip.
