Within the past few weeks we've had four deaths and one survivor (minus a leg and in serious condition at this point) in just a small geographical area. All four shouldn't have happened if the riders were taking simple precautions-maybe early year rust, or just ignorance, but they made these common mistakes that we might if not exercising proper caution: Two separate cases of guys passing a slow moving line of vehicles and getting to the front just as the lead vehicle turns left into a driveway (three deaths in these two cases, one bike had a passenger also killed), another hits a u-turning vehicle and another (with a passenger) who wasn't watching his six pulling up to a stop light and got smacked from behind.

Bad start to the season upstate NY-be careful out there.

We had an MC rider pass away this morning. 80 years old. We have a steel bridge that turns 90 degrees to let the boats go through the harbor every hour. While the blocking guards were coming down he decided to keep going. He swung around the first one and got taken out by the second one just behind it from the other side of the road. Don't know what he was thinken. Traffic was allready stopping and he just kept going. Maybe a senior moment or just stupidity? Either way he won't be doing it again.

I heard this one on the news tonight-I thought they had messed up the age..

Post # 1 points out the need not only for awareness of what's going on, and what might happen (always have a plan, right?) but also the need for patience. The passing a line of cars could be just impatience, getting in a hurry, frustrated that all these cars are blocking your "private" racing area. Somebody at the front slowing for a turn is one of those things that you have to be thinking about in your situational awareness.

Keep an eye out, but keep a level head, too.
