Had a great first ride with the wife. We only knocked helmets a couple of times but it was wide smiles the entire trip. Tried to keep it simple so a ride along the Colonial parkway in Williamsburg VA. was in order. This part of town is practically our backyard so we neglected to take any pictures. Once we got warmed up we decided to take the Jamestown ferry across to Surry. This area is loaded with American History but it's easy to take it for granted.

Once on the other side of the James River we just meandered through the country taking route 6somethingorother to route 6idontremember back down to 6itdoesntreallymatter. The countryside was beautiful but these pictures dont do it any justice.

Stopped briefly to take this picture of Fu Manchu. He went crazy once I dropped it in first. He bucked and spun and pretty much freaked us out....

Eventually we made it to Smithfield (Bacon Town). This is a pretty cool little town with some old buildings and brightly painted houses. This is a pic of the original Isle of Wight Courthouse circa 1750.

Is this a Chinese knock-off? The emblem reads HM3.

Next stop was Capt Chuck-a-Mucks in Rescue for some eats. Decided to check it out after hearing it was featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Pretty good food and real nice scenery on the Pagan River.

Then back across the James. This bridge is seven miles long so, in the background you can see Northrop Grumman shipyard where the USS Enterprise is docked now.

Great 100 mile day. It took a little getting use to, the bike just didnt want to turn as easily. But this is the kinda day you want for getting your feet wet with the 2up thing. Looking forward to stretching out the miles.

-cheers

great ride report! You broke a rule though. You must include a food shot when dining! :) I do want to give you a warning. When doing a u-turn, try and keep the bike up as straight as possible, tell your passenger to sit straight up on the bike, and take the turn as wide as possible. I almost learned the hardway.

Anyway, looked like a great ride. Did the wife enjoy the trip?

Nice! I live in Chesapeake. The Mrs. and I have rode those roads a couple of times. I do not really notice any steering/maneuvering differences when she is on the back except for very low speed turns (like mentioned, stay upright, wide U turns). Perhaps it could be your tires? -OR- Have you tutored her on proper passenger techniques? I tell my wife to keep her shoulders in line with mine, turn her head in the same direction I turn mine in the turns and remain neutral.
