I've already got a GPS (2610), but Garmin just came out with the latest in the Streetpilot series... the 2820... So all you 27XX owners are now behind the technology curve like the rest of us... :p

Streetpilot 2820

With preloaded street maps and built-in Bluetooth® wireless capability, Garmin’s StreetPilot® 2820 is the ideal road companion for your car or motorcycle. Featuring hands-free calling, real-time traffic capabilities, MP3 player, audio book player, and an extensive points-of-interest database — this deluxe navigator has it all.

Place hands-free calls with Bluetooth wireless technology

The StreetPilot 2820 integrates wireless technology with a microphone and speaker that lets you make hands-free calls on a compatible Bluetooth phone. Motorcyclists can connect a Bluetooth-enabled headset or helmet* simultaneously with a Bluetooth phone to the StreetPilot 2820 to talk hands-free on the road or receive wireless navigation audio prompts to their destination.

In addition, easily look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or from your phone’s call history log. Don’t know the phone number for your destination? Simply find and dial it from the StreetPilot 2820’s extensive points of interest database — including hotels, restaurants, stores, and attractions.

Navigate with Ease

The StreetPilot 2820 comes ready to use out of the box with preloaded maps of Europe or North America. Simply enter a destination, and you’re automatically routed with turn-by-turn voice directions that speak street names. A fingertip touch screen interface, remote control, and 2D or 3D map perspective combined with the ability to arrange destinations to minimize trip distance make navigation easy. It also accepts customized points of interest (POIs) such as school zones and safety cameras and includes proximity alerts to warn of upcoming POIs.

Avoid Traffic Tie-ups

Monitor traffic tie-ups with the addition of an optional traffic receiver. In select metro areas, with the addition of the GTM™ 10 or GTM 12 FM TMC traffic sensors** or GXM 30™ XM smart antenna**, the SteetPilot 2820 notifies you of accidents, road construction, and weather-related traffic delays before they are encountered, and then offers an alternate route. Simply touch the screen icon to calculate a new route. In addition to valuable traffic information, the GXM 30 and subscription to XM NavTraffic also provide basic weather information such as current conditions, forecasts, and Severe Weather Alerts.

Enjoy MP3, Audio Book Player and optional XM Radio

The StreetPilot 2820’s MP3 player, audio book player and optional XM Radio keep you entertained on the road. The MP3 player allows you to browse music by artist, album, and/or song. Optional audio books may be purchased from audible.com which features over 70,000 hours of audio programs. A subscription to XM Radio along with the GXM 30 smart antenna provide over 150 plus channels of commercial-free music, sports, news, talk and entertainment programming.

One drawback I see to the 2820 is it doesn't look like it will come with the GXM 30™ XM smart antenna.

Everything I have seen says it is optional.

If you want XM radio, traffic or weather you need an XM antenna.

The 2730 includes this $250 option in the box.

With street prices of the 2730 being around $850, even if the 2820 can be had for close to that...

Makes for quite the expensive bluetooth option/upgrade.

Maybe this is the GPS you buy if you have no interest in XM services??

Does anyone see bluetooth being helpful on a motorcycle?

The 2 bluetooth options I have seen will cost an extra ~$200 for a bluetooth upgrade to your sound system (autocom & starcom)

Having bluetooth (wireless) to your helmet for GPS, XM, MP3 (2820) would be nice.

What do you do for your radar then? (most important IMHO)

I still see a wired mixit2 being my near term solution.

-2730 GPS, XM, MP3

-Valentine 1

-Ipod

-Still have an extra port for ???

The 4 ports, price and priority porting of the mixit2 have my interest.

For a mount I will be using a tech mount with the garmin motorcycle kit

I've got a Techmount stemstand and the Garmin Motorcycle mount, as shown here...

GPS stand

You might have to scroll down a bit...

What mounting bracket are you guys using for the FJR?
My intent is to copy others using a techmount stemstand with a touratech bracket (whenever they restock them).

Welcome to the forum spridal!

Think you can get me a date with Trixie? One fine babe, that be. Just be sure to keep Chim-chim away from that dastardly twowheelnut. I am afraid to even consider the unspeakable acts he would bestow on poor Chim-chim.

Hehehe... I thought I was the only one who watched (and still do) Speed Racer :) Thanks for the welcome to the board!

I've looked at this one, but I think as tourers we could use weather info way more than bluetooth; and this GPS does not advertise as being able to receive weather data.

Does anyone know--will any XM activated GPS perform any function advertised over an subscription (ie, can you get a GPS that does XM radio and weather such as the GPSMap 376c, and also have it doe XM Navigation, which is *not* advertised as a feature of that GPS)? If not, if a GPS is only able to do whatever XM tasks are advertised for it, then I'd rather have weather any day of the week. Now I'm looking at replacing my 276c; unfortunately Garmin still hasn't caught on and put their transreflective screens on any auto-nav units, so I'd prefer the 376, but also want the traffic information of the 27xx. *sigh* no perfect bike, no perfect gps..... *sigh*

The 2820 feature set indicates basic weather reporting:

In addition to valuable traffic information, the GXM 30 and subscription to XM NavTraffic also provide basic weather information such as current conditions, forecasts, and Severe Weather Alerts.

Current conditions? Look around. Not sure how useful that would be...

I know everybody likes Garmin but don't forget Tomtom. I have a Rider and it has most of the features described here and costs much less. My Tomtom has worked great for me. :D

yeah, I'm more looking for animated weather maps, like the 376c has. I have been caught in torrential and somewhat frightening thunderstorms on a tour, when from a distance it looked like the storm was headed some direction away from us; come 'round a corner only to be hit with a wall of water. Last year it was outside Kansas City, and apparantly KC with the northernmost part of the storm. Had I headed north when I first started seeing yucky skies I could have completely avoided it. But from where we were it looked like we were going to miss it anyway, so we went on straight ahead, and then got pummeled. Storm was so bad that a semi in the opposite (thank jebus) direction jack-knifed and took out an two SUV's and a couple other cars, and completely blocked the interstate. We were doing 25mph on the interstate and having problems seeing, and nowhere was there a bridge to hide under. Sure would've like to miss THAT one. So animated weather maps are what I seek! Sounds like the 2820 doesn't fit that bill.....

I have a Bluetooth Scala Cardio Rider in my helmet and love it ($50 on ebay 150 retail) Voice activated dialing and hands free answering. I made a date with my dad for the morn while doing 80 on the highway and he thought I was on a landline. Will use a a bike to bike / rider/pass com sys. the only prob with this is if you get out of service range.

This sounds like the GPS I've been watin for

The bluetooth for the Starcom (BTM-01) is only to support a bluetooth cell phone, not to enable bluetooth to the helmet(s).
