Orange stuff in the cylinder

Don't sweat it..... prolly extra fine iron oxide from the rings..... clean 'er up and go. Curious, is there any "ring ridge" at the top of the cylinder bores (or carbon ring at topmost travel of the piston)? Scrape that off too if any.

How long between the time the head bolts were loosened and the "rust" was observed?

Maybe it's just coolant stain?
I think a day. Or immediately. I looked at the cylinders immediately but don't recall if I saw the orange.

Damnit that was just last week. I should be able to clearly remember this fact. I do know that I wasn't looking for stains etc when I pulled the head,
The reason I ask is that upon closer inspection, the orange "stuff" looks more like a smear/drip than typical rust formation, plus, it's on top of the carbon ridge and the cross-hatching below the ridge..

*snip*I agree it probably is rust; the question is how that moisture got in there.
Spooge*

*any displeasing or unidentifiable - but generally sticky or slimy - substance.

If it was running fine, don't worry about it.

My guess would be condensation with an iron supplement from somewhere.
