Here are a couple possibilities:

1. Remove the padding from the small will give you a size medium.

2. Add extra padding to the large will give you a size medium.

Yep. Find me some padding for a RSR2 and I'll heavily consider. I've done some extensive searches and can't find anything relative to replacement parts or padding unfortunately.

Also, I think there are only 2 shell sizes. The XS-M can share padding and L-XL share padding. So I don't think you can remove L padding and put in M, it won't fit. It'll also leave you with a bobble-head large shell M helmet.
