Protecting Radar Detector From Water & Dirt ?

I use a legal speeding radar detector waterproof case.

It's spendy but it works very well. The waterproof case is below the SPOT device on the right.

Here it is in the middle of the SPOT and the FastTrak on the dash shelf.

+1 Puppychow. I had the same on my fjr for years. Made it through some frog strangles and mixed rain/snow storms, great box that .works

Riding bud Fred W has a spiffy powered tank bag where his radar detector hides from view when it's sunny and hides from the wet when it rains.

Being mounted on top of my electrified tank bag means the wires only have to go from inside the tank bag (to my Stacom1 and power) up to the lid. It also means that when it rains and I put my rain cover over the tank bag it protects the RD too.

Being inside of the little opaque Cordura zipper bag means it is somewhat stealthy, but also you lose your (optical) laser detection, so miss out on the ability to be alerted to the fact that you will soon be getting a LiDAR ticket. I'm OK with that.

What is the small Cordura bag and where did you find it?

That bag was re-purposed by me; it originally contained some meter test leads of some now forgotten kind.

I present it more as the basis of an idea for mounting location than something that you could go out and buy a copy of. I'm sure that an insutrious type person could find some other similar case that their RD would fit into.

Interesting additional info: I was pulled over by a local LEO last weekend for enjoying my bike a bit too much. The RD was on and in its case seen above, but did not make a peep. I'm pretty sure that the cop did not realize that there was a radar detector in that case as he eventually gave me a warning for speeding and not a ticket for 20 over the limit. If the RD was in plain sight he'd have probably formed a different opinion about me and brought out a bigger hammer.

I'm getting ready to purchase one of the radar detector mounts from Gerauld and was just curious as to how some of you who use radar detectors on your bike keep them clear and dry from the outdoor elements?

I put mine on my dash; close behind the windshield.

If it rains, I put it in my tank bag. After all, with traction reduced during rain, I find speeding not an issue.

The V1 does a great job of not only pinging a radar hit, but telling which direction that hit came from.

Commenting on detectors...I own a V1 and an Escort 9500i. Both are good detectors. However there is only one choice for the motorcycle and that's the V1. I have two of them now. Three main reasons I like the V1: Analog off/on (important for discrete mounting, not so with the 9500), tells you where the threat is (not so with the 9500), and has great sensitivity in either direction (9500 has great sensitivity to the front, not so much to the rear).

I have a V1 and an Escort Max. I like the Escort better in any urban setting because there are way less false signals, but the V1 seems to alert sooner and is much more rugged. The V1 has a metal (magnesium?) case while the Max is plastic. I broke the display on my Max within a week of purchase, I have had a V1 for 15 years and never broken it.

I use the same setup as Marcus. Used a sandwich bag for a while but way too much condensation here in the Pacific Northwet.
