Removing lower fork tube protectors

I have a 2003 FJR and just bought a used superbrace. Since it came with no instructions I looked at their website and got them. Can anyone tell me how to remove the lower fork tube protectors to do this install? Also why is it necessary to loosen the axle pinch bolts? Just curious and thanks.

All I can say is it's no fun removing those shields.. You need a small screwdriver to pry 'em up.

Don't know anything about the brace..

You loosen the axle pinch bolts so the spacing of the forks can conform exactly to the Superbrace, then retighten the pinch bolts.

Awesome! Thanks fellas. I was thinking the screwdriver thing might work and now the pinch bolts thing makes more sense. May be a good job for this afternoon.
