I have been looking at the FJR for a while and keep my eye on the For Sale forum just because it interests me to know what is out there. They only thing is I don't know if I can buy a used bike. Something inside of me keeps telling me it's better to have my own new one than someone else's problems even though "none have been dropped or touched by rain" <_< . But what I have been noticing is that there are a lot of FJRs for sale lately and soo early in the season. Everywhere you look at bikes for sale there is always the "Don't have time to ride" or "Bought a house/Had a kid" sales but has anyone ever wondered if there was something else behind it? Maybe they weren't happy with the bike and used the generic excuses? I have seen this on other forums all over the place and just found it funny. There are a whole lotta babies being made in the Spring. LOL

I know this post seems out of nowhere but it's just something I noticed and had 5 minutes to type about. I guess that's why I am so hesitant on going to the dealer and handing them a check. Since none of the dealers give test rides I would have to hope I love it as much as most of you seem to. If not I think it will be baby making season. hehehe

Yes, it seems there have been a rash of used FJR's lately...

Things that make you go Hrm....

If you offer me the right $$$$ you can have mine Farkles and all. I've already got 3 kids, if we get another there will be a lawsuit or divorce  And I don't plan on moving any time soon.

Otherwise you can't afford my bike :p

Always buy used myself... let someone else take that initial depreciation hit. Oh, and maybe that used bike will have a farkle or two already installed.

As for the rash of bikes... yeah, seems thata' way. Better for the consumer looking to avoid the initial depreciation hit. I'm waiting to see what the '08 color is... & then waiting for the consumer that doesn't like his FJR, had a baby, etc... & I might snatch that bike out from underneath him/her.

There are more out there now than ever-inevitable the number of used ones for sale would increase as well. But you're right to be concerned-it's a terrible machine, as evidenced by all the hate filled commentary to be found here and elsewhere.

03-07, four years worth of production on the streets. It's just time to see a bigger FJR used market.

Hmmm....4500+ members....of which about 3500 are real. Sales to me seem to be commensurate with general increase in board population.

Purchased my used FJR in February and have lived happily ever after (except for when it snowed, iced or was below 20 degrees). Could have purchased new but I am too cheap, found a bike with lots of extras and paid a lot less then new. 3000 miles later I have had no issues with the bike and getting ready to head out on a 1000 mile weekend.

Good luck on your purchase.

I recently sold my 05. I made that decision to sell based on the fact that I had purchased an 07. Maybe it would be a good question to ask if other people are upgradeing also. I can't say enough GOOD THINGS about the FJR. I started 40 years ago with a Honda Scrambler, then a CB 750, then a FJ 1200. That was probably the thing that got me on to YAHAHA. The word for me is Dependable. I went to the 05 FJR and loved it,but I am in the process of moving back to the south[NEW ORLEANS] and was kind of afraid of the heat issues. Please don't get me wrong it was never a problem here in the Portland ,Oregon area.I also looked at some of things that Yamaha did to the Gen II bikes and they were things that could have cost alot to upgade the 05.I understand that what you are saying about the baby, new house, had no permission to buy,etc.,etc. Finally, things have changed at a lot of the dealers, yes you will have to show that you have the riding skills and the responcibility that it takes to get on a $13 or $14,000 bike that if you lay it down and you get to just walk away would not be fair to them. Be patient and don't stop atr just one dealer... Anyway "GOOD LUCK" with any decision you make.. BEN

Just where do you live down their? I will be living on the west bank. Shoot me an "E-MAIL" @ [email protected]. When I get their maybe we can get together for a ride. I am really looking forward to that Gulf Coast. Thanks for the reply. BEN

Selling in the Spring is always the way to go (as a seller) as the prices are the highest for the season. You'll always see more bikes for sale then. Those who wait to sell later in the year will often wait until next spring to put them on the market instead of taking a hit on their sale price at the end of riding season (some areas of the country).

As for more FJRs for sale, each year there are more in country than previous years. Statistically that will mean that more will show up on the used market.

Bullshit. Folks need the sale to produce the deposit for the new C14. ;)

What do you do to finance a used bike? Not everyone has bags of money lying around 8) Most dealers have pretty tempting financing deals to.

B) I bought mine used with less than 8 months and 2000 miles on the OD. Guy bought it so that he could go riding with his wife. Problem was, they had two toddlers younger than 4 and had to get a babysitter everytime they went for a ride. I got the bike for over 4K less than dealer. Big plus was that he worked for Yama Mama and got me some extras at his price along with the 4 year Y.E.S. warranty to boot. My favorite bike ever. Most of these riders take good care of their bikes, as evidienced by the amount of farkling and tinkering going on in this forum. Also, when you do find a used one, it doesn't last for long. If I had owned a Harley, I would of sold it and bought me two of these, the A and AE. :p

As for financing the used bike, do what I did, I got an offer for 5.9% life of the loan from one of my card companies, I asked for a credit line increase, they gave it to me and I bought the bike for cash. This gave me title without a lean. I sold my old bike within a week and paid down the amount made from that sale and what I would have paid for a first month payment anyway had I financed it, now I owe 3K less on the card. I will continue to pay for it as if it were on a regular loan and add some each time so that I have it paid off quickly. I am looking for another offer from card company at 0% life of loan and I will transfer over to that. Just got to play it sometimes to make it work. Then again, if your credit is bad or needs help, this may not work for you. :D

I think I am going to email you some porn and my ex-girlfriends measurements. Maybe some spam, too....just to be safe.

Just sounds like a troller to me. 6 posts and inferring people are selling because of problems with the FJR and legitimate reasons for selling are lies. Things that make you go hmmmmmm!!!!!!

Plus it would not lead the market share if the FJR wasn't the best out there. I have had mine going on 5 years in July. 03 ticker fix and no other problems what so ever. Still a fantastic LD platform and a ton of fun to ride.

I was going to trade up to the 07, I like the color. With all the farkles and what it would take to set the 07 up, plus the difference between the sale of the 03 and the price of the 07, I bought and set up an 07 Suzuki V-Strom DL 650. So I now have two bikes set up in similar fashion except no fuel cell on the Strom for not trading up. So no used bike on the market.

Just an observation from someone who has been in the FJR community over 5 years and loving every minute of it.

Yup it's definitely better to buy new from a dealer. Those are the people who really care about the bikes.

You wouldn’t want to buy a bike from me. Especially after I just finished doing all of its routine maintenance, doing all that work knowing that my life might be the price I pay for doing a poor job.

you have to remember that a few of us put money down on the bikes in october, and didn't get the bike till febuary, or march, and some are still waiting for their's. time changes, and sometimes we need to adjust to the changes. i feel the FJR is a GREAT bike, and the support of this forum is priceless. i don't know of any other board that has the info found here. this forum is what made me decide to get the FJR. now that i have a few broken bones, i have more time to read this forum, but still no time to ride. good luck with your search, no matter which way you buy, new or used.
