I recently purchased a handle bar cable twist unit that has a smoother ramp design, supposed to give more slow speed take off. It's listed for the FJR so thought it would be an easy exchange to install it. Not so I didn't know the OE on the bike has a sensor wire running through the clamp casting and into the twist section. (see attached pictures) is this system just on the AE versions and has some connection to the auto-clutch on the AE? As the change was just to improve low speed take off and not a problem I might just put the assembly back together and leave well alone! I don't have a workshop manual to see the assembly and it's function, most of the postings on a throttle sensor all are talking about at the other end of the cables to set the opening position. any info would be appreciated.

No sensor wire of any sort for the '07 throttle cable. Based on the paint color, it appears that yours is the AE (auto clutch) model which comes with heated grips. This is likely the wire for that. The '07 A model was black cherry color and didn't have heated grips.

Thanks, that's correct it has heated grips and is the AE auto clutch unit. I now feel dumb, never gave it a thought about the heater circuit I was just concentrating on the throttle and was thinking about that! Duh! Thanks, I'll now carry on with installing the throttle mod and see if it'll make any improvements.
