When I first saw the diesel fuel pump, and the pushbutton (which I thought was a gas grill igniter) I was thinking "Now this has promise". In some company I guess spraying a tailgater with flaming diesel fuel might be considered going a little too far.

How about paint stripper?

Hmmmm, I think I'd add an igniter and adjust the spray so it would spew 3 or 4 foot long flames. Not long enough to actually hit the offender, just make em back off.

Awesome. I like the flame thrower ideas thrown up the best.... Like the old Adam West batmobile...

Edit... Used it yet?

During the NE Woodman Ride earlier this year we got to see the Backfire™ system operate. Let me assure you that old 'Commuter rides around packed and ready to fire. At that time several people offered him some other suggestions such as Liquid AssPosted Image

Butt, it turns out that he had already considered this. We also offered some of James Bond's favorite substances too. Don't mess with the 'Commuter!!!

Bad decisions make for good stories.

the flame thrower was slick. the rocket launcher needed to have stabilizer fins on the fireworks. he was nearly as likely to shoot himself. the Bad Idea Jeans were lame.

This is a clever idea and brilliantly executed. However, I'm going to side w/ the naysayers...this is a really, really bad idea. If an ambulance-chasing lawyer or any lawyer, for that matter, ever gets you in court, it'll be "Katie, bar the door!" It has all the earmarks of pre-meditation...especially so, since you announced your intentions in a public forum. And, the "gun" part...announcing that as well...I won't even go there.

Full disclosure: I'm not a lawyer, but, I did watch Law and Order last nite!

Thus why we should kill all the lawyers! :P

When I saw that diesel fuel pump my thought was 'My goodness, he's building a rear firing flame-thrower!'

Maybe you could hook this whole thing up to a small propane tank, and add some way to get a spark. You could drive down the road with flames shooting out your ass. <img src="http://www.fjrforum....IR#>/ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" /> That would decrease the tailgaters for sure. The original idea is pretty ingenious I think. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />

Oh, and <b>edited</b> to add: Something is <u><b>still</b></u> frigging wrong with you! <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />

At first I was considering it, my wife more or less talked me out of it- my biggest fear was shooting flamethrower and catching my bike, or something else on fire. That'd take the fun right out of it

I think I would rather rear mounted paintball guns. The spray nozzles would coat your backside with over spray from wind turbulence

I absolutely loved reading this entire thread. This is a genius idea...I've always wanted a James Bond defensive system (minus the ejection seat...I think that all bikes come with one of those).

Sheer genius...has the aft defensive system ever been deployed?

That won't stop em it'll only piss them off.

I like the idea of tagging them with paintballs to let other motorists know "here's an A..hole".

To get rid of them I think you need an oil sprayer tht covers the windshield and road, so they spin out like they used to in all those old movies.

I had considered that at one point, but didn't seem feasable, and would have been much more expensive, and more difficult to fabricate

I'm glad you liked it- I had a blast doing it, as far as deployment; I've never, and probably will never use it on a motorist behind me. To much chance for it to escalate, and knowing my self and my sometimes hit head, it would wind up really bad for me or the other person when it did.

The time I've used it, have been in humorous context, like suckering people to check out some other distraction on the back of the feejer, and then surprising the hell out of them, it's funnier when one of my kids does it to one of their friends. Hey look at this on my dad's bike...etc.

If to guys ever decide to do something similar, please don't be stupid with it, there's to many assholes out on the road, you never know who you might be f'ing with out there.

Believe me, I've fantasized about that very thing, but realIze that the effect of spraying the road with anything would have consequences for others beside the intended target, kinda like jamming your brakes on when being tailgated, there might be another biker behind that guy, who gets crashed into by the guy behind him.

Not preaching, but I would feel really bad, if I ever hurt someone who wasn't even part of the conflict I was in.
