It is going to mean that I will no longer be able to use my their smartphone for anything that I don't want to "share" with them. But perhaps even more alarming (and more to the point of this thread) is that with the Airwatch software allows them to monitor the device's internal GPS activity real-time from the back office and determine the device (and therefore my) whereabouts at any time that the device is powered on. Think about that.
Not sure how I am going to respond to this...
Fixed it for you.

I'm the IT guy here. We don't run that kind of stuff but it's always kind of funny when folks realize that I DO have access to just about dang near everything they have and do on our network. They usually freak out a little about some image that's on their computer or something they sent using work email. I then point out that I have neither the time nor the inclination to actually go look at their stuff unless they screw up. Of course, not all companies work that way, but I do. I'm too lazy to go read your boring email.

Thanks for the info. I just signed up and activated my phone. Now all I need to do is leave work early, go get mike bike and test this thing out. Come on 5:00pm!!!!

My testing is about done, 1 full month. Really can't find any hiccups, product/app works perfectly. Note: I do use probably the best smartphone out there currently (S4), I'm not sure how the slower processor phones will multitask this (Bubbler App) in the background and still run let's say your normal GPS or Speedo and stream music all at the same time etc. The Galaxy S4 is tested w me as flawless w all 3 at once, including fielding phone calls! never any convolution or lockups. :)

So last night I went to a Bike-n-BBQ nite just north of Seneca Falls, NY. Also a little cruise to my store in town (needed to check on sumtin).

I just wanted to "measure" the bubbles and see if they were actually being 'laid down' in 5-min increments (long trips are easy, the short ones (zoomed in map wise) show the more "intricate" of details and are much more harder to define. With G/F on back with stopwatch (her iPhone app), tapping my shoulder at every 5 min. and me mentally noting to where we were. Seems like it did it's 5-min pings just about where I had thought.

5 min ping local test Map

Yeah, well... I meant "my" phone in the sense of it is the one I have to carry, not that I own it. At one time it was my phone. And then they "allowed" me to use it on their network, but only after installing apps and adhering to their IT policies on it. Then they replaced it in their dime, so yes it now belongs to them.

And none of this was all that much of a surprise, I knew it was all coming. I just do not like the idea of having to carry two phones around all of the time.

While I appreciate what you are saying about your smaller company, Jasen, the company that I work for has more than enough dedicated IT and HR resources to root out "non-compliance" issues. Of that I have no doubt.

Yup, I've worked for those companies as well.

Really test it out when you go to NERDS!

<my tip> Create a map for each day you go to NERDS, make sure the start and stop times are on that day. This way you will have each day separately plotted (and not all jumbled on top of each other). This is not only for your friends/family or forum lurkers but for YOR reference later!

Fred - what you're saying with AirWatch is that they'll know where you are regardless of whether you're using your phone as a GPS tracker or not, so you might as well send that info to your friends as well (if that's what you want to do) and save some money at the same time.

Agree with you on the privacy issue - might as well forget it if you decide to carry a cell phone or use credit cards and/or ATMs.

Do you mean pressing "stop" on the phone at the end of each day (and then pressing "Update now" the next morning, or starting a new "trip" on the website for each day?

When you make a map in spotwalla, make the start and end date the same each day (it should show a 23hr/59min recording time). This will probably make more sense once you create a map or two for your testing.

You can press start and stop each day to take the app out of memory and stop it from running in the background. You could however keep it going, and let your spotwalla map dates/times filter the day usage/plotting as well.

As said, once you make a map or two this <tip i suggested> will hit home

I ended up in this situation too, then got out of it by returning the phone to my employer, getting a soft-number, and then forward that to my personal cell phone. Now I just carry one phone, browse pr0n if I want, and go for midday pie runs, post on forums, etc. ;-)

OK, I just created the individual days in my spotwalla I had mentioned...

And when opening the 1st days (Ride-in trip) NERDS 2013 - Weds 8/14 you can see it will record just that one day and the rest of the Rally days will be recorded and kept separate. If your doing one big trip and not a lot of backtracking then this would not come into play, a multi day plot would be preferred over this one as you would wanna see the 'big picture". BUT.. not for a Rally where each day separated is better (at least for my thinking and hence my tip).

I think that while the trip is going on, you can choose the history drop down on the left and see only 1 day of tracks. It looks like once the trip is finished that you can see only the entire trip. At least, that's what playing around with spotwalla shows me right now.

This would make sense. Since mine have all been one day tests, a multiple day trip would confirm.

I checked and do not have the day selection available on my maps but as said, it could be because I set them up for single day's.

Having the trip however all combined in the end without being able to separate days, would go back to my <tip> and keep separate days (at least for Rally's or days that will cross paths).

Saw THIS on another site. For iPhone.
Only buzzkill or anchor I see is no buffering and no spotwalla connection.
Looks like the My Tracks app for android. That works pretty well, just no spotwalla interface.
Yeah, I use that app for snowmobiling. It's not in the equation here cuz (as u mentioned) it won't report real-time position to (something like/or) SpotWalla. It's basically a personal tracker. No buffering either, maps are not pre-tiled, pre-loaded, relies on cell signal just to operate... it's a no-user for sure.
