And would that short ball end also work for putting the bolts back in? ;)
V65,

Hahahaha!! I suspect so!

Was changing plugs tonight, remembered seeing something about removing the Air things...and having just done exactly that on my '09 Triumph Bonnie, I said "why not?" So now they are off and a thought comes to me....rare but there anyway: on the Bonnie, if you don't leave the electrical connection in place (solenoid?) you get a fault code and the engine light comes on and stays on until you reset it and either reinstall the solenoid or jump the connector with a low ohm resistor. Do not ask how I know. Now about that connector on the Feejer ('04, GenI), does it even have a check engine light? I honestly dont recall and too lazy to go get the manual. Since there was no mention of the problem, I'd assume it not a problem. But then again, there was no mention on the Triumph forum either.....
I hate to answer my own post.....bike is running just great, no 'check engine light'.

Any indication as to if this helps or hinders fuel economy or performance?

Fuel economy = no change

Performance = no change

Changing plugs and working under the "hood" = priceless
Fuel economy= 2.0 to 3.0 increase in mileage so far, Lets see if anyone else gets this? (Added filter to air box inlet.)

Performance= very slight change +

Changing plugs and working under the "hood" = priceless, OOOOOOOH YEH! :)

2.0 to 3.0 miles better than before, or worse?

Fixed it, I think?

I was normally getting 37 to 38 MPG. It has now hovering around 40.1 to 40.2. I have been doing 2 up on weekends with the wife and solo to work. About the same either way. I don't think the covers had anything to do with it. I may have gotten the increase by adding the little air filter instead of blocking off the airbox inlet. More time and miles will tell.

I'd be REAL skeptical that adding that tiny shot of air through the PAIR port on the airbox is gonna make a 6% increase in fuel mileage. If I was to hazard a guess, everything else being equal, I'd credit "summer" blends of gas hitting local pumps.

OK - So I have the California model... I assume that means that I just need to plug the extra hose?

Hope this helps out,

Wicked Webby

It helped a lot. I had installed Walker's Holeshot slip-ons on my '08 (previously had them on my '05) and really hated the decel pop I was getting.

Thanks to your instructions I gave it a go and with some input from others, who did the same, I used another method to close the induction ports. NAPA sells what they call By Pass Caps. I used 1/2" on the induction ports and 5/8" on the air box. Piece of cake.

Worked like a charm. Thanks for the write up and photos. You solved my problem.

Thanks,

Ed

Now Howie, you play nice. :D

I am not even sure where that hose even goes. On our models (non CA) it comes plugged and gets removed. Assuming that hose goes somewhere my guess would be to plug where ever it goes.

After 4 kids I should no by now where the hose goes! (another discusion)

Update - I decided to do this on my '05 CA model last week... The AIS removal procedure is exactly the same. The hose that was plugged on WW's procedure was plugged on mine as well. I assumed that it would go the the charcoal canister, but to my surprise it did not. Maybe there are differences between the Gen I's and II's, but this is how my Gen I was setup.

The next question that I have is what the heck is that friggin' charcoal canister doing then anyways??? I thought about removing it too, but I've heard it's a PITA and I can't believe it's doing anything anyway...

Cheers!

Charcoal canisters are usually in the evaporate emissions system. That would be where the tank vent lines run to keep those evil hydrocarbon vapors from polluting the atmosphere.

Maybe the new plugs gave you the better mileage? Or maybe the station you've been going to lately has less corn squeezins in the fuel? That's more likely than the little breather thingee, IMO...

Did this mod today along with a new air filter, new plugs and a TB Sync, used the bypass caps from napa, all is looking real nice. Just finishing up the left side heat fix. I did the right side heat fix a week or so ago, and at the time, the left side felt fine. A little warm maybe, but the right side was way too hot for my likes. Now, the right side is COOL BABY, and the left side is too hot. Great Forum, and great stuff guys, thanks!

UPDATE, just went for a ride with all the above, and WOW what a difference, NO MORE popping, I never liked it but diddnt realize how much I diddnt like it till I diddnt have it...... (ok, one too many beers) TB sync and new plugs made a huge difference too, now on and off throttle are smooth and turbine like. Too bad I could only go for a 1/2 hour ride. ** Though not in this thread, also want to say the heat fixes worked well, can ride with running sneakers/shorts and no socks, I feel warmth, but not hit. Before, with thick leather boots/socks and riding pants/jeans the right side was barely tolerable and left was tolerable, now both are perfect.
