I get that all the time I call it my Barney bike. I put the black leather covering on the fairiong to protect it from rocvks and debry and to tone the purple down a pinch,lol.

I bought it used and the mufflrs are louder then stock. I don't like it to loud.

Your name doesn't happen to be Barney, does it?

It looks like you still have some mufflers on that, so I'm sure you'll be welcome.

Well, they say it's not an adventure until you're not sure if you're gonna get home.

My adventure is starting early.

Haven't ridden much the last month or so, so I decided to ride the FJR to work this morning. It was a little slow to crank, but no big deal. Let 'er warm up, geared up, hopped on and off I went.

Long story short, my battery is finally tits-up. Hopefully it'll start (made it to work OK) and get me home tonight.

I'm hoping Alex has a Shorai in stock. If not, it's not a big deal - I just happen to have a huge motorcycle-stuff store just a few minutes from home.

If it's not one thing it's another.

Think I'll go start a SPOT thread now.

It said rain today, a few days ago. So I planed to be in a car today. The Boss (He rides to.) Has been after me to come into the corp. office for a few weeks now. So with rain in the forecast I relent and pick today to hit the office. Being in the car I can dress a bit more professional and play the part a little better than when I am in the field.

So we are in Waltham MA. We do our thing and say hey lets get lunch. So we are out and there is nothing but blue skies and bikes buzzing all around.

Getting ragged on all threw lunch because he knew I was only coming in because of the weather report.

The Moral of the story…. Don’t plain 3 days ahead of the weather in New England LOL.

Hey NERDS!! It's hard to believe, but we are almost there.

 

 

We haven't even converged on Stowe yet and we already have our first little event "story"...

 

 

As you know, we cut-off the tee-shirt and stickers ordering in July so that we'd have plenty of time to place the orders with the screen printer and get the goods shipped to FJRed's in VT for the event. We ended up with 56 of the tee shirts and a goodly number of the various stickers being ordered by you NERDS. So we finalized the design (screen capture from the manufacturer's website below) and placed the order.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Last week the stickers came in and they all looked great!! This week the 40 lbs of black tee shirts also arrived. But when Ed anxiously opened up the box it was a bit of a shock. The areas in our design that were supposed to print gray are just speckled white!! :angry2:

 

I guess the printer thought that there is still snow on the roads in August, way up in Vermont? :blink: Maybe they misread the acronym as New England Riders Driving in the Snow?

 

 

 

 

 

Well, naturally I contacted the printers (Zazzle.com) and informed them of their mistake and our dissatisfaction. They offered to take them back and to give us a full refund, or else they would reprint new shirts, but they could not promise to have the reprinted shirts back to us in time for our NERDS gathering next week.

 

Neither of those options were attractive. I told them that we would just have to keep and use these shirts, but that we were extremely disappointed in them, and that we would not be doing any business with them again anytime in the future. This was nearly a $1000 order in total. How they could let a mistake like this ship out is beyond me.

 

Well this morning, in a "make it right" attempt, they credited our NERDS PayPal account back by 20% of the screen printed (tee shirt) portion of the order. So the NERDS now have a positive balance to use for "entertainment expenses" next week, and a tee shirt to rival those from the SW-FOG in Toas. NM.

Alright all you snow ridin' NERDS. Here's a last Friday before NERDS tee shirt update:

The NERDS tee shirt committee (that's me and Ed) have conferred and come to the overwhelming and unanimous (perhaps even unilateral?) consensus on the way that we should distribute the tee shirt refund. As much as the committee wanted to use these funds to purchase big fat cigars and copious quantities of liqour, we realized that in keeping with the original tenor of the NERDS philosophy (ie cheaper is usually better) these excess funds need to go back from whence they came. So we will be returning said funds back to the poor misguided mooks that bought these shirts in the first place. Why it took us more than a few seconds to reach this conclusion will ever remain a mystery.

So here is how it works:

When you pick up your tee shirt(s) this week we will present you with one US government engraved likeness of Abe Lincoln for each shirt you have bought and previously paid for. Oh, and you also get the collectors edition, snow-rider NERDS '11 shirt(s). What a frikken' deal, eh? You can redeem these engraved US vouchers at any local merchant of your choice, though be fore-warned if you try to take them back north of the border they may frown at your proffering them for goods or, (ahem... :blushing: ) services.

Now... with that bit of bidness out of the way. It is looking like the weather will actually be quite nice the first part of the weekend. And at this point, that is the only part that they have a better than 50% chance of getting right. So do not be deterred by the longer range predilections. Come to Stowe and have some fun!!

We did manage to scrape up a little shwag to be disseminated via drawing at the Friday evening BBQ. Mostly the leftovers from CFR and a few items donated by local merchants. Nothing like you might see at those high dollar FJR meetings, mostly because we didn't spend much time soliciting them. But we'll have a few hats and doo-dads, and if anyone wants to bring something along to be included in the raffle, by all means, do so. What could be better than sharing (your unwanted junk) with your fellow NERDS?

So, ride safe to the venue friends. We are gonna have some fun now!!! :drinks:

Any deals on Shorai batteries in your neighbourhood? Did you go for the higher capacity model or just the standard one? I'll be interested in whether you notice any difference in handling.

I have had a pleasant schedule change and should be en-route Thursday at noon......whahoo! My CFR travelling buddy Glenn (Spiff B) are looking forward to meeting everyone! I'll be sure to keep my eyes peeled for flying lumber........but me thinks the forest rats will be more of a concern as we've changed our route to come up from the southern portion of the Adirondaks.

I am a Shorai early adopter. Turn-in to left is incredibly quicker, and the wear on the right side of the tires is nonexistent!

Thanks to Fred & Ed for performing the cat-herding duties that is organizing this type of event. Sooze and I are still looking forward to our snowy shirts.

We left yesterday afternoon and spent last night with Sooze's sister and family. As always, we had a great time visiting with her family.

We're in Brattleboro, VT, tonight, headed for Maine in the morning. One thing I did not do last time we were in Maine: I did not get any lobstah. I'm not much of a fan of Ohio lobstah, so I'm hoping that Maine lobstah is more gooder.

As for the battery: I can't really offer any credible feedback on handling, since we're 2-up and packed too much crap. I will say that the difference in the speed at which the engine turns over is NOTICEABLY improved, pointing to the fact that my old battery had been dying a slow death. And the weight difference when holding them side-by-side is also very noticeable.

By all means have some Maine lobstah. Ain't nothin' better nowhere. But I must warn you that this is the worst time of the year for Maine lobster eating. The lobsters (at least the ones big enough to be kept and sold) molt their shells in early July. So what you get in August is only the soft-shells. Their new shells are bigger and roomier with skinny bodies inside. You end up with a lot more sea water per pound now than back in June just before they lose their hard shells. The prices do go down to reflect the lower yield. Eating a two pound softshell is like eating a pound and a quarter hardshell, so go big or stay home.

Sounds like a fun rally.....just saw this thread tonight and wondering if I can make some last minute plans to attend from South Eastern Ontario, Canada! Rode the area a few years ago on my Katana with a buddy on his FZ1 and am anxious to get in some long miles on the FJR I piicked up last Monday. Definitely thinking about making the trip
