There is also an EconoLodge on 33 just east of 219 that is inexpensive. I've never stayed there so I can't comment on what they offer.

I have stayed there. Way back in 2005 Nothing to write home about. Can't tell ya if it has changed any. No place to eat on site. No bar.

Even if they're all my friends and I know their riding characteristics, six is at least two more than my patience level can take.

More than four is like herding cats. Doubly worse if you don't really know each other.

I'd agree - I'm most comfortable with a smaller group. LIke 2 on very spirited runs, but 3-5 is manageable for me.

This is a invitation to folks on the fence about attending their first fjr event. I found it a bit awkward at my first fjr event to find people to ride with.

I did feel like an outsider. A guy from Oklahoma must of recognized the look and befriended me. Being new to the sport touring world I had know idea

if I could keep up on the rides. Even though it's been written many times (Ride Your Own Ride) I did not want to embarrass myself.

Second event was much easier as I had met another rider to attend the event with and there were a few there that I did meet at the first event.

I did get lucky at the last EOM and fell into a rather large group of riders that ran the Egg Rolls. I did not count but must have been a dozen bikes.

To my knowledge no one had an issue do to the size of the group. Some riders juggled position because they wanted to push a little harder.

So here is the invite, you can ride with me and not have to put any pressure on yourself. Here's the deal. If I am faster I'll wait for you at a turn.

If you are faster you wait for me. I will probably be with a few other riders at the event but they are of like mind.

Well said!!! I only have only one forum ride to my credit and I have to say that newbs should not shy away from these events. Rest assured that you will be taken into the fold (unless your a jerk). You will not be shunned or left behind. So, COME ON DOWN :yahoo: You'll have a great time for sure. :clapping:

Anyway, although I prefer to ride with a smaller group because it makes rest stops and gas stops go faster, I have ridden with very large groups of FJR riders without incident. We are not like a parade of cruisers and do not stick to a pack, but we do wait for stragglers (the further from home I am the more likely that I'll be the straggler) at the turns and never forget about anyone.

You know...there's one in every crowd. BUT...I would have to say in my experience, there have been very few at FJR gatherings. I have met many wonderful people at these gatherings...people who have become my friends.

One word of advice...I would look and see if there are any smaller local rides near you...or in a place you've always wanted to visit. I find for myself that it is easier to "break the ice" at those gatherings.

Nah, If you hadn't tried to prove that Gen1 gas tanks are bigger than Gen2 I never would have found out the fjr is faster than a dozen attack dogs.

Regarding the gas, I had your back, Buddy-boo. I was ready to siphon from my tank

And there were no jerks in that group ! Even the cager who scraped the rubber guard off Dave's sidecase mid-turn was a nice guy
