The weather for that weekend is unsettled. Accuweather says Rain on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Still 10 days to go, but my final RSVP to the restaurant was due this morning.

I am still planning to go rain or shine, but I do not know if other people's plans will change if it rains. So far 33 people have RSVP'ed but that number might drop off quite a bit if wet weather prevails.

I talked to the restaurant this morning about that. This was something which got sprung on me, they wanted me to guarantee that 30 people will show up on that day for lunch, guarantee that with my credit card #, and if less people show up they charge my credit card $15 per head for the ones who didn't show.

So, short story is I was reluctant to guarantee them the number of attendees, so we may not all get to sit at one big table, but we are still welcome to show up, eat, drink and hang out in the restaurant's backyard by the river.

Rookie lesson learnt for me is that next time charge a refundable registration for events such as these. You show up and sign the attendance log - you get your registration money back. You don't cancel 10 days prior and don't show up, you forfeit your registration.

Thoughts? Suggestions?
I would pay ahead of time for something like this that depends on the weather. I think you made the right call. If it is raining I am out. Not fun to ride hours in the rain back and forth. Let alone camp in the rain.

We will show up for lunch like any other ride. If they can seat great if not there are other places to eat. I happy as long as I get to sit next to Fairlaner and hear him bitch about the fish and chips. That's my favorite part of the ride.

We've done large lunch gatherings in the past there without having any sort of credit card/guarantee required. It was just giving them a heads up for their convenience which you've done. One large table of 30 would be a little unwieldy anyway so several tables of 4-6 is probably better for conversation, etc. I'll still go even if it's raining... may wuss out and take the car but I am really looking forward to a short getaway down the coast. Cambria has lots of cool stuff to see so it won't be a waste either way. B)

+1, Gunny; you made the right decision Sam, Good Call! I am in the same boat as johnny80s, I also only come to these FJR Forum Events just to hear Richard piss, moan and whine about the fish and chips. I am also fully in agreement with TomInCA: "Occasional rain and drizzle aren't going to stop me, but a forecast of heavy steady rain might."

Meet us at the campground. Don posted up his cell. I will post up the camp site when we get there.

I am not in charge of nothin so don't look to me for leadership. I'm taking the day off.
Copy that. I figured it might be a herding cat situation (thanks for that Tyler :p )......and I despise herding cats, so it will be whatever it will be. I'll just plan on heading to SSSP on Sat morning picking up any FJR derelicts I run across on the way :yahoo:

Be there by 9am Randy, johnny80s is giving all of us happy campers a free foot massage. He has the gentlest skillful hands, Truly Unbelievable!

Tyler this was a different guy I spoke to this time. This was not the "manager" I had spoken to before. This guy claims to be the manager, but wanted me to guarantee with my credit card or he would cancel my reservation.
huh.gif

I told him I won't be doing that, but we will still be showing up, but I wasn't going to make a non-refundable guarantee with my credit card info.

I hate surprises such as these! But, I wanted to explain things out in the open for my forum friends. Thanks for your understanding!

Rain or shine! ;)

We have a room there, so the rain won't stop us. Just hoping for ride-able weather.
Unless it is a drowning downpour, I will be there Redtail. Will be good to see you again! :)

The best time I've ever had riding, was on this stretch of HWY 1. It was a weekend that was supposed to get rained out, so no one traveled! Only the storm never came, and we had the road to ourselves, both days! Truly epic riding was done that weekend!

Time for the positive vibes!!! :p

I think that not paying the non-refundable guarantee money was the correct call. I can see their side of things but only if they will be turning down other reservations to ensure room for our group.... or if they have to call in additional staff. I do not know the capacity of the restaurant but they are likely able to serve the number of people who show up at any given time plus or minus thirty. It's not as if we are hiring them to cater a gathering. All, most, some of us'll show up. If they can seat us altogether, fine. If not, fine. It's difficult to talk with thirty people over lunch in any case. If they can seat us at separate tables, fine. If not, well, we'll cope.
Looking forward to seeing you and your +1!

Oh, and the rest of you schmucks too! :p

Hey, Gary, it will be great to see you.....and those other schmucks (what a fine Irish colloquialism 'tis), too!

Meshugana?

To paraphrase the Firesign Theater, I think we're all bozos on this bike.

Hand me the pliers.

This is one of my favorite destinations and it looks like a great group but it looks like I am going to have to miss this one. We finally were able to get my GF signed up for the basic rider course so she can get cracking on her new FZ6R. She will be taking it in Palm Springs that weekend while I play all day.

Have a blast and be safe everybody. I would love to host a ride and BBQ at my place soon.
