    Newbie Gen2 Question

    Melting plastic on instrument cluster

Catching up on some reading, my 04 never had an issue sitting every day in the sun outside of work (or at least as many sunny days as Pittsburgh affords). Until I disabled the windshield retraction. Third year into ownership I disabled more or less just to do it, it never bothered me. The very...

    Brake Pad replacements

Good experience here with EBC HH. 65K on my 2004 FJR, 40K of that on the EBCs. Will switch the 2008 over to EBC HHs when the OEMs wear out. terrysig

    sidebag liners?

have never used the hard cases...tucked away in the garage. so have no need for the liners. actually have two oem sets still in the plastic (one set from dealer and the other by mail from mama yama???). would sell them. probably $70 a set delivered. but for sure there is cheaper look-alike...

    Front RoadSmart tire

got 3k from the OEM BT020 (back going very strong at 6500. switched to the Roadsmart and at 3500 it looks like it will get another 1000 miles. of course it s the sides that go first. then i just ride the interstates to finish off the tire. :D

    Clunking When First Starting

Slardy, Same thing here. '04 was smooth as silk both start and shifting. The '08 has the same funky cold startup issues. The shifting is starting to smooth out but have the clutch cover gasket in case. I really liked the updates for the 08 so have been putting up with the few quirks. If given...

    Dealer performs hack job!

this thread keeps reminding me of my own trouble with Crossroads Motorsports in Gibsonia PA. 2008 with 500 miles in for the recall and left with: - dented tank - dented exhaust - misrouted cables - tank and fairing scratches so just called back my customer service rep at yamaha (joseph...

    Dealer performs hack job!

Mama Yama acted real concerned in my case and we had several go-rounds, i sent pictures and lots of documentation. In the end the customer service rep told me that I was screwed because the dealer did not want to work with me. Lets see $800 for the exhaust can and $1000 or more for the tank and...

Do you ride with your Hard Bags?

The only ride my hard bags have ever gotten on either of my two FJRs was home from the Stealership. As soon as I get them home I popped the reflectors (just for fun), tighten and loctite the latch screw then i wrap them in old sweatshirts and plastic bags and tuck them away in the garage. i...

    Dealer performs hack job!

with regards to "how do you know they performed the work?". i remembered reading that a dot was supposed to be punched above the VIN. i check, definitely no dot...although in my case I guess they missed the VIN and hit the exhaust can! and then they missed again and hit the tank! damn...

    Dealer performs hack job!

Yes, be very careful. My total of damage for the ignition fix is: * ding in pipe near passenger footrest * ding in tank near ignition * cables outside cable keeper * scratches in the paint on both sides of the cockpit area. The dings were small but for chrisakes the bike had less than 500...

    Gibsonia, PA, Crossroads Motorsports

I took my 2008 FJR into Crossroads Motorsports in Gibsonia PA for the ignition recall. No big deal. I'd used them for one or two service items on my 2004 and always to load tires on rims. The 2008 had only 400 miles on it since I picked it up late last Fall and basically hid under a cover during...

    EBC Brake Pad Part Numbers

cafn8d- can you tell me if you got heat disapaters with the pads? thin steel backing plates with holes for each pad. had them on my '04 and do not remember putting them on but ran HH pads. my '08 rattles like hell at the pads and it does not have those "shims". '08 is too new to need pads...
