Gen II vs. Gen III Stator Assembly - is there a difference?

CONFIRMED: Gen III stator is identical to the Gen II one even though the first portion of the part number is different. I was able to find a take-off from a 2014 for my 2007 bike on eBay which saved me at least $450. Hoping it'll make it just as long as my previous two. Why a brand new stator...

Gen II vs. Gen III Stator Assembly - is there a difference?

It's that time of year again. I've just blown through a second stator on my 2007 FJR. The original one lasted to 102k, and this one's toast at around 84k. Not too shabby considering the mileage. Before I go drop $350+ on a new OEM stator, I'm curious if the Gen III stator is identical to the...

2007 FJR Front Brake - only engaging right (linked) caliper

Sorry...been busy the last few days so I'm catching up on the conversation. For the person who asked about the brake lines, I went with Galfer. The lines are great, however I'd recommend using OEM Yamaha washers for those banjo bolts because the ones that came in the kit weren't malleable...

2007 FJR Front Brake - only engaging right (linked) caliper

So I'm a bit stumped about this front brake issue so I'm throwing it out here for some feedback. I'm only getting braking from one side of my front wheel, as in the linked caliper (right side) is fully engaged when I pull the lever and the left side caliper isn't getting any pressure. When I...

That one hole on the FJR handlebars...RAM Mount? (About time I discovered this.)

I figured it was a remnant of another use. Funny how easy it is to readapt it. Oh, universal holes. Nice setup. I like the place of that heat controller rather than the lower position on the fairing. I didn't go with the electronic cruise control, the Brakeaway works well for me.

That one hole on the FJR handlebars...RAM Mount? (About time I discovered this.)

Quick 5-minute farkle on my '07 FJR after playing in the motorcycle store I work at (which is going out of business and liquidating all its in-store stock). I'm probably pretty late to the party on this finding, but I did enjoy doing this writeup and trying out one of my old cameras with it...

    FJR Mileage Milestones

The '07 is now at 121,000 miles as of today. Had to slow down to about 200 miles a week because temps are starting to drop into the 20s here in Ohio with some ice warnings. Had to cage it to work today because the battery decided to conk out on me this morning. I'm still looking for a solution...

    Fitting Helmet into side cases

Actually, that's not surprising. The Bell Star (and Vortex) helmets have notoriously wide shells and I've only been able to fit one in my topcase. I've sold quite a few of those helmets and looking at them straight on, I really wondered how these would fare aerodynamically. All other helmets...

    IBA SS2000 Completed - 7/1/11

Taking a look at that one. Might be able to make it, penciling it into the calendar. I have to get used to this "ride 100 miles to get to a decent road in Ohio" thing. I used to just go over one hill and I was overlooking the ocean on switchbacks in CA. Just another excuse to add to the...

Tips for short folks with FJRs

I'm a little under 5'6" with a 29" inseam. Only adjustments I made for height was a Corbin seat and the Yamaha touring windshield (+4" height, +0.5" width). I've never found a need to flat foot the bike at all, balls of the feet comfortably on the ground when evenly straddled is just enough. If...

    IBA SS2000 Completed - 7/1/11

After doing my first SS1000 last August from Columbus, OH to Spartanburg, SC and back, I had to shoot a little higher. I rode to CA en route to the Women On Wheels® 25th Annual International Ride-In taking place in San Jose, CA last week, and work didn't give me enough time to get there...

(NSFW) Go the F**k to Sleep - read by Samuel L. Jackson

...and now that's just been downloaded to my Zumo 550 for those random laughs on the Interstate.

    Tire Wear

Looking at those photos, it appears to be severe tire cupping. That's usually caused by underinflating a tire and then straight line running it for a couple hundred miles. I'll usually get that in the front tire after a long period of time but getting it on the rear tire usually means you're not...

    IBA SS1000 done 06-12-2011

Congrats on the SS1000! It's awesome thing to say you pulled that off. Did my first (official) one last August on a very broken in Corbin seat with a sheepskin pad. Looking forward to attempting the BBG1500 in a few weeks. Should be interesting.

Steel Braided Lines - Worth the Cost/Headache?

I've been juggling around replacing my lines with SS eventually (about 4.5 years and 105k miles on these current lines but they're still just fine) and this discussion is helping quite a bit. I'm probably going to go SS for the cost - it's actually cheaper for me to do that. Probably go with...

    Evaporative Cooling Vest

I purchased the Bilt cooling vest from Cycle Gear about three years ago (they still sell it) and have used it every summer I've ridden cross-country. I kept it inside a gallon Ziploc bag in my topcase until I needed it. To activate it I simply filled the bag with water with the vest in it (added...

    What's in your saddle bag?

Don't forget the lighter to light said candle. ;) I'd also suggest carrying extra fuses including the main 50A fuse. I use Ride-On in my tires so it saves me from having to use plugs or even notice that I hit something.

    mystery decals

The European models got the stripes, Yamaha went plain with us. I've always loved the stripes on the Euro model so I got them myself from Premier Cycle Accessories. I installed them on my '07 FJR and they look awesome as long as you follow their instructions. It took about two hours, painter's...
