The curves on the road are through Wisconsin and early MN, then there is nothing until you get through to South Dakota. Once in South Dakota, it is curves through the Badlands, Mt Rushmore and scenic roads down through WY and into Colorado.
The trip out is about 1500 miles and back is 950...
So RiderCoarLar and I are going to be making a road trip out to NAFO in July. I know that he sent out an invite to our Chicago area list, but if there is anyone interested in riding out with us or meeting up along the way, fee free to post up.
We are planning on leaving July 23rd and getting...
Here is our planned route coming from Chicago.
Will take us up through the Wisconsin backroads, across MN, through the Badlands and Mt. Rushmore and then down all of the backroads I knew to get from Wyoming to Golden - including a late mountain jaunt.
The ride back to Chicago is going to be...
It is kind of a longer ride   , but we could go exploring into Wisconsin.... it is roughly 470 miles but would include a long afternoon of twisties and sweepers and more.
Route would be something like...
Barrington to Rockford through Mt. Horeb
on towards Wisconsin going though...

I have to agree... I have done many rides with the sportbike crowd and they always end up with some form of hooliganism or wreck. The group yesterday was great, everybody at their own pace. It was my pleasure to be the front man - and was pretty cool being able to look in the mirrors and see a...
Everyone,
Thanks for a great day of riding. The weather started a little skeptical looking but by the time breakfast had ended it was great and turned into a fabulous day for riding. Thanks to Larry for coordinating the ride. The route from door to door for us was 399 miles.
It was great...
Thanks for the advice... I hadn't thought of road closures along the rivers. Right now the IL-DOT is not showing any closures along the planned route. It is looking that there could be a chance of showers in the morning with things expected to clear up around noon.
I have to say that I was loving my Zumo... up until the point on Sunday where it stopped powering up. It was showing low on battery, so I connected it to the car USB charger and after a while it just wouldn't turn back on. The unit is being shipped back to Garmin for repair/replacement.
I have a '86 VFR - Pearl White that I might be willing to part with. Runs great, has upgraded Galfer lines, Penske rear shock. If you would be interested in learning more, drop me a PM.
I have the same setup and just got back from a long trip around Lake Michigan. Let me tell you that I was thrilled with the Zumo and Starcom combination. The MP3 on the Zumo works great, the bluetooth connection to the phone allowed for crystal clear communication to my wife at home. And...
Datel volt meter, seat, throttle lock, communication system, driving lights, GPS, radar detector, top trunk, added brake lighting, powerlets, etc.... The possibilities are limited only by what you want to spend.
Well, it all worked out. The screw was enough to hold the air until I got to the dealer where I got the bike and they were able to get me in an out by 10am. There is definitely good advice here about carrying a plug kit on the long rides and knowing how to use it (something to add to my tool...
So I am packing tonight to leave in the morning on a trip around Lake Michigan. Checking the rear tire, I notice that the tire pressure is low. So I go looking and what do I find? A nice screw stuck in the tire. So not only do I have to go tire shopping in the morning (replacing a pretty...
