I vote battery. You can have enough juice to crank it over at a reasonably good rate and still not be a strong enough spark to ignite. To check, if you have a reasonable slope anywhere near your driveway, try bump starting it. If it cranks up easily, it's likely your battery.

Could be slightly leaky fuel injectors. That would create an overly rich mixture that would be difficult to ignite.

I kinda cheat. I take a~3ft piece of clear PVC tubing, put one end in the reserve tank on the bike, the other end in the coolant jug, take a rag and the blower attachment on my air compressor and pressurize the coolant jug and watch the coolant level in the reservoir until it reaches desired...

I went to see about the ECU update on my bike a couple of months ago and they (Katy Yamaha) didn't give me any grief about it, although a couple of weeks after going in there I called to check on the part and they said it was backordered until September! :o So I'll check back with them in...
