    WTB: Right Side Luggage Case

I need a right side luggage case. I'm going to refinish it so color or a few scratches don't matter.

    ArcGIS Resource for Route Makers

This is supposedly a subscription service but I'm using it as-is. I didn't sign up for anything. ArcGIS has satellite imagery of the entire US at .3 meter resolution. Good for determining if that curvy road out in the boonies you see on a map is actually doable for the FJR. By comparison...

    Elk River Falls Dayride

On Monday Ladd (aka Beachy) his son Sam and I hooked up for some twisty riding and leaf peeping in the NC/TN Highlands. Of course, the roads are superb and we even discovered a new to us 8 mile twisty run that earns a place in the local knowledge vault. The crew, Ladd and son Sam. We headed...

    FRS/GMRS Radio

If ya got it bring it. Helps with groups. How about channel 3? That covers both FRS and the higher output GMRS. Please disable the "roger" beep! There's also CB, Sena bluetooth and others - bring them too. You never know what might come in handy.

My Hometown - A Ride Around the Countryside

Here's a short video run around the area of my hometown. I live in a nice place for a morning ride. You can click the arrows icon for full screen video after starting it. https://vimeo.com/71211423

Route Planning & Goat Path Avoidance - Google and Bing Maps

Like many here I often use Google Maps to rough out routes which I then convert for use with GPS. A problem with roads out in the sticks is that Google Maps satellite view is often too fuzzy to determine what an unknown road is like. About a year ago I checked out Bing Maps and have since...

    NC-226A Tar Snakes

Heads up to NC highland visitors. NC-226A is a well known "must do" motorcycle road south of the BRP at Little Switzerland, aka "Diamondback" or part of the "Diamondback Loop" and other monikers depending on who's talking. Late last year it was covered with tar snakes and I've never seen more...

Charlotte, Hickory Area Riders, Sat 3/30 Dayride

I'm a sorta new resident in this area. I've met a few riders here and there are more I haven't so let's hook up and roll! Temp is 60ish for Saturday but the highlands are still a mess (it snowed up there again this week). We'll do a foothill loop from Lenoir to Mt Airy, have lunch then get...

HaulinAshe, Teri and Lee Go For a Ride on Motorcycles

It's snowed every week all winter long in the North Carolina highlands near my place so between the ice, snow, sand, salt and grit it hasn't been worth going up there. But, glory be!... this weekend we saw temps climb to the 60s! HaulinAshe's wife Teri said enough is enough...we're going for a...

    New EOM Participants

This season's EOM is situated in some of the most beautiful country the Appalachian Mountains have to offer with breathtaking views and magnificent forests. Of particular interest to us FJR riders are the roads which emphasis the sport aspect of sport touring. If you haven't traveled these...

    FJRs in Western NC

February I moved to Lenoir, NC in the middle of all sorts of bendy mountain roads and often see FJRs but they just keep right on going. One or two might be local but most are probably visiting to ride the attractions. Next time you're here and see someone on a silver FJR frantically waving you...

    Retired to the NC Mountains

I retired as soon as I could, 61.9 yrs old, in February and bought a house in Lenoir NC so I could ride the mountains to my hearts content. Lenoir is a lesser known town (read: cheap real estate!) SE of Asheville, a few miles from Boone and Blowing Rock. So far this place is paradise - within...

Sunday Morning Biker Hangout In Pittsboro NC

Maybe I'm the last to know but I heard the Carolina Brewery & Grill north of Pittsboro on 15-501 next to Lowe's Building Supply set themselves up in May to replace the long dead Michael's as the new Sunday morning rendezvous. I read on the BMW forum they have outdoor tables, serve breakfast and...

    Christiansburg Ride Video

Here are clips shot a couple weekends ago along a few roads on a central NC to Christiansburg Va dayride. Lots of pretty scenery through the hills and river bottoms of Va. A perfect day for riding. HD available. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d68wzglKXVs

WTB - Starter/Kill Switch Housing Retainer

I need the plate that retains the starter and kill switch housing. It's the back of the switch housing towards the front of the bike. Naturally, Yamaha bundles this with the entire housing, switches and wiring harness. It's pricey and I don't need all that! I'll check back here or you can PM...

Hwy 16 - Marion to Beckley

I'm planning a twisty ride for April part of which includes Hwy 16 from Marion VA to Beckley WV. A friend who was up that way a couple weeks ago told me today that the road was covered in thick gravel - I guess traction for cages - that made it all but impassable for bikes. Does anyone know...
