Hey, I did a hard stop, and now my ABS light is blinking, what should I check? can I do a diagnostics? and if so how? I use this bike as my daily driver and don't have time to hit the dealer any time soon.
Thanks Bob

Hi Bob. any intermitant problem will cause the ABS light to blink. When the light is blinking the ABS system is deactivated and your brakes will work like a non ABS bike, so don't worry. If it becomes more consistant you can start by checking your brake lights. The ABS control unit uses the brake light circuit to activate the ABS system so if it only starts blinking after you apply the brakes it is probably that circuit. If is comes on while riding it is most likely a dirty wheel speed sensor. Keep an eye on when it happens and that will help diagnose the problem.I am not sure I know what you mean buy rear brake pivot linkage? Is this the linkage at the rear of the brake pedal?
Thanks for any clarification!
Bob
Wrong. GENERALLY - The blinking light only means that the wheels have gotten out of sync. Maybe you spun the rear, or hit a bump. The ABS still works. This horse has been beat to death - search blinking lights or something like that. There are several threads here. Also read the ABS supplement in the manual. Next time it blinks try locking up the rear on a deserted patch of road, maybe with a little gravel or some tar snakes. You will feel the ABS pulse. I have never heard of an ABS failure.Hi Bob. any intermitant problem will cause the ABS light to blink. Hey Sherman think about it a little. "The blinking light Wrong. GENERALLY - only means that the wheels have gotten out of sync" If that were true the light would blink every time I back into a parking space since the front wheel travels a larger circle than the rear. Come to think of it every time your turn the bars the wheels would be traveling a different radius circle. I admit I could be wrong about how the ABS system works on your bike and I am more familiar with ABS systems on Mercedes and BMW. I do know the last burn out I did and last wheelie, did not cause my ABS light to blink. The blinking light Wrong. GENERALLY - only means that the wheels have gotten out of sync. Thanks Sherman, I see from the other posts that Yamaha must do things differently than Bosch and other automotive systems. On cars the ABS unit will not activate or test the wheel speed sensors until the vehicle reaches 15 mph and the brake light circuit is activated. We have cars with codes set for front wheel speed sensors defective after a Dyno run for a smog test. Looks like I need to get some factory manuals from Yamaha. It is hard to tell from the posts on this forum what the facts are. I did notice that several posts contradicted eachother about the ABS being deactivated with the light on. Important part is a blinking light is no big deal for the rider and going to be hard to diagnose without trial and error testing.
